Happy new year everyone

What? No scratches? You need to take that thing out some and give it a workout.

Happy New Year

John:

First of all, congratulations! You will love your new camera.

Secondly, get your damn speakers off of the wood floor, speakers sound like crap on the floor. Jeez, you'd think you could pry a $50.00 bill from that HVX fund and buy some decent speaker stands? Just kidding!

LOL....................... yeah, I know. :Drogar-Shock(DBG): ......... That's one of the rear speakers for my mini theater system. Maybe I'll use the HVX box for a speaker stand.

Which tripod are you using?

Dan

The legs are made by Feisol and the model I have is the CT-3401. Feisol tripods are pretty popular with the 'still cam' folks. Very good quality and modest price. I purchased it directly from Feisol.

The head is a 'small' Manfrotto 701RC2. It's surprisingly adequate (for me) for the bare HVX. I purchased this head for another lighter cam and had planned on replacing it when I got the HVX. However, after mounting the HVX and checking out the smooth action I think I'll stick with it for now.

John, he looks like a dog who knows how to enjoy life! Have you tried zooming fully in with the hvx on the Manfrotto 701RC2? I am curious to know what the footage looks on a monitor like on that, is there any evidence of low level blurring or any evidence that such a light weight head is reducing the image quality? Thanks!

Sorry, I never did extensive IQ testing with that head. All I can tell you is that the pan smoothness felt very good. I had bought that head for a much smaller camera and truth be told I was shocked when I mounted the HVX on it and felt how nice the head behaved..

That said, I hesitate recommending the head (for a bare HVX) because it goes against the "more is better" philosophy that seems to pervade this forum..

BTW, that pic is a still from my D2H. I doubt even a Red would look that good.

congrats! I just got my 3 HVX cameras with everything :) (good tripods, pelican cases, shotgun mics, shoulder mount, etc) I'm in the same joy as you :)
