Clips from Christmas, DVX100a & SGpro (bokeh test at end)

Hi,

have you checked that you got proper back focus? I think it al looked very soft, and you can probably get a sharper image with your SGpro. What f-stop did you use?
All in all the winter footage looks nice. I wish it could snow some here in Sweden...
Keep shooting!

Regards

Thank you.

Never really heard that much about backfocus.. so please explain:P hehe
The f stop was at f4.0 and 5.6 for the winter shots, then about f2.0 and f2. inside and maybe f4.0 sometimes.

It is a ***** to focus with the small dvx lcd screen though.. :crybaby:

Hi,

Nice and clean but as D Odell says, your backfocus is surely off (backfocus being the camcorders focus on the GG)

Ah.. yeah that.. I remember beaing really unsure of how to do that..
When I was gonna focus on the GG I stopped at where I saw the most highlighted "grainy" parts. Is there a method I can use to ensure that I got right?

That's some of the best youtube video I've seen:beer:! Can you post your export settings?

Oh and thanks:)

In Adobe Premiere I export as a "microsoft avi" file and with "no compression" so the file is gonna get really big. This one ended up as 4 GB.
Then I use quicktime pro to export it to a .mov file with h.264 compression.
And in there i set the quality to 75 which is "high". And that's about it..

Love the interior shots of him playing playstation, really nice light.
To get your sgpro proper backfocused use this little guide which I got from Timurcivian:

"zoom in on the GG with your camera, with no 35mm lens on adapter, point it at a simlarly
lit are (white wall, or something similar), keep the iris
on the HVX/DVX/A1/Z1 as open as possible, use ND filters if neccesary.

put a finger in front of the opening of the sgpro.
this make sthe grain really stand out, and it makes
it easy for you autofocus to find it.

Autofocus on the grain, after taping it down.
put on the lens, set to infinity, auto focus again,
then turn the GGmotor on, and while focusd on something with detail,
autofocus again..... i knwo it takes three steps but it gives you PERFECT focus.

also, every 3rd take, autofocus with the lens focused on
something contrasty and with detial, because the autofcus motors do waft after a while."

- And btw, Happy newyear! :)

Ah yes of course:) Happy new year to all!

Thanks smettli.. You're a big help! I tried it and I think it works.. I think I actually had it right the first time I taped it down, but I think it's loosened a bit..
Can I ask what do you keep your zoom switch on? servo?

No prob dude. I have my zoom set to manual so I don't put any unnecesary force on the motor, incase I feel like throwing the camera into a wall or something. If my camera was my wife, I would be the ultimate wife-beater of all time.

Haha!
Ultimate.. nice..
that's good to hear.. Unfortunately I'm married to my right hand.. my camera will have to wait for the beating until the divorce between my hand and me is filed..
