4-Camera HVX Shoot: Capturing to FCP for Edit on Avid?

I'm producing a 4-camera HVX shoot (3 stationary, 1 jib) this week. We edit with Avid, but the studio we're working with typically captures direct to hard disk with FCP laptops when using HVXs, to reduce costs of renting P2s.

What are the options for direct capture in FCP and edit in Avid, or am I screwed if I don't just rent the P2s?

I'd rent the cards... You're making the assumption that the Mac Books can move the amount of data the cameras produce. And while that may be true, you know for sure there aren't background operations or other external influences when using the P2 cards. I'd would have gone for FS-100's instead of a bunch of macbooks. Inorder to edit multicam shoots, you still need to copy the data to one edit bay. Not to mention that if you shoot P2 you can edit on what ever system you're most comfortable with.

don't know about getting the files to avid. you may try apples forum or better yet see about emailing this guy lfhd.blogspot.com His name is shane ross and he is always helpful I know he is on the apple forum and think i have seen him a couple of time here. And as far as using the mac book to capture . I don't about the mac book but we use the mac book pro and they work flawlessly.

I believe once you capture the files to FCP and it coverts them to QT. It's pretty easy to transfer to avid as QT files. Just import everything into avid.

Otherwise way not just import AVX files into Avid?--it would be the fastest.

Multi-is the best in Avid.

Good Luck!
