Cool Lights European Group Buy

That's exactly why we created this thread so people wouldn't have to pay larger shipping and customs charges. In fact eliminating the customs and shipping charges down to just a short distance one like we do in the USA. However good luck with DIY...

I still hope we find a better solution to this, than everyone having to start DIY projects...
DIY is fine for me as long as it either results in a big saving or creates sth that can´t be bought...
Just doing it for the fun is also OK of course:thumbsup:!

We will. You don't get any answers till you start asking questions and that process has begun. We just need some innovative ideas and this will take off. Maybe we'll figure out ways to change the way things are done in Europe and shake it up a bit.

This thread needs to be revived!!!

Richard,
any new developements with your "container idea"? Did you find an escrow agent, yet?

What about shipping from the US?
I guess a lot of US companys produce in China, but sell from their headquarters in the states. And even if you won´t get B&H shipping rates, I´m pretty sure it will be cheaper than from China...

And maybe all potential buyers from Europe could show their interest here in this thread to give Richard a better insight on European demand...

I´ll start with 1 x Portaflo655 dim. 1 x Poratflo455 1 x 575HMI and 1 x 1200HMI

Though only relying on DVXuser for gathering European demand won´t be enough...

Spartacus,

Getting the word out is the tough part.

I am looking into how to get better rates from USA to Europe by pooling in with a larger fedex account (as a sub account so to speak). Will no more next week on that subject. In the meantime, go ahead and lets see what we can get in the way of demand for this group buy via sea container idea.

I have not had a chance to work on the escrow agent at the moment but I will check with a major bank somewhere in Europe as the place to start.

In the meantime, I have also been inquiring as to what it would take to partner into an ecommerce warehouse somewhere in Europe like what we're doing in the USA. Also checking into all the points about what I'd need to pay in the way of taxes, what paperwork is necessary and all that. It's not so different from in the USA (except for the VAT issues--which we don't have).

Hey Richard,
good to hear you´re still thinking about the old world;o)
The FedEx solution sounds promising, because of the good Dollar/Euro exchange rates (at least for Europeans hehe), people I know started shopping at B&H (we´re talking Germans ordering Arris from the States!)

Don't worry, I don't give up easily. As they say, to succeed, you have to be too dumb to know when to quit. We'll get there one way or another.

Didn't know that they sell ARRI now. Hehe, but ARRI is too expensive.
But they are a lasting investment!
I have an Arrilite ENG kit for almost 10 years now...
But if Richard did everything right, there´s no reason not to expect the same reliabilty from CoolLight fixtures...

But I really need this shipping cost issue sorted out soon...

Are you talking about the fixture alone?
Along with the ballast we´re talking ruffly 3500$ here...

Oh I see, the ballast is included with Richards PAR I guess.

I have an Arrilite ENG kit for almost 10 years now...

I don't like these open face lights. I hope Richard comes up with something like dedolights. Maybe a HMI from Richard, but they are even there a little bit over my budget. I probably rent HMI.

Can you change the spot there? Like with dedos? Okay, the dedos throw much more than 150w, they throw around 4 times that.

Yeah, I have one 150w it puts out the equivalent of 600w of a ARRI fresnel. They use halogen bulbs and some patentet mechanism.

The Dedos have a spot lens on them and thats what really separates them from a a normal 150w fresnel. I agree that something of that size would be particularly attractive for an interview kit and I have thought about it before. I had a 60w LED last year that I had high hopes for using in such a light but the color temperature and CRI issues that it had made it unsuitable. I imagine though that will change in the near future and perhaps we can make an LED spot of some kind with adjustable size of beam. Of course, it also depends upon the price of those LEDs coming down too. By the time you got the LED and a good fixture for it, I think I figured it would have been close to $1000 which I thought was unacceptable.
