OK, so I put up the finished ver. of the short. This was done for fun without any planning so of course the storyline could use a little more refining. Anyways, we did this to play with my new HVX, which I had gotten only 2 days earlier. So, please let me know what you think. I did adjust the contrast this time.

I got my HVX in the mail this past Tuesday so A friend of mine and I decided to shoot a short film. Its titled Detour and it's about a young man who has to take a detour to go home from college and he ends up breaking down in the woods and he's not the only one out there. We shot with a stock HVX and 1 16GB P2 card. (No lights or tripod).

We were really lucky that the weather was the way that it was. It was the perfect feel for the short.

Let me know what you think. This is my first project with the camera and I love it. Any criticism is welcome.

Thanks

YEA love the look of it... I'd like to see more of this, and actually some footage.
Did it take long to render?

I will post the vid up on my website as soon as I am able to put the final touches on it. I still have some title and audio work to do.

As far as the rendering goes, not really. I rendered the whole thing, about 3 minutes, in premiere on my cheap HP laptop in about 5 minutes. My laptop is a duel core AMD 1.8 Ghrz. with 2 gig of ram. I got it for about $600 and I am very pleasantly surprised at how well it is doing.

Other than how perfect the weather was, we were so lucky. We went up there with only an idea and we got some shots and took them home and they worked brilliantly.

I am really glad you liked it so far.

looks pretty cool. the blacks seemed to be crushed as far as possible, lol... the dude's redskin's hoody looks black in one shot. how long is the short?

The overall look of the grabs looks pretty sweet. The blacks are pretty crushed to the point of being unable to see his eyes in a few shots. Might want to try and punch this up a tiny bit to see them. But it's tough to comment without watching the actual short. I like a lot of shadows within films, so I don't want to suggest bringing the blacks up too far to see his eyes, since it might ruin your overall aesthetic.

And I doubt anyone watching your short is gonna be nitpicking to that degree and going "Dammit I couldn't see his eye!" especially if it's really short and they're into it.

I'd be interested in watching the whole thing, before being able to actually give you a legit critique. For now I'm just talking out my ass on single frame shots. :lipsrseal

Nice CC.. Great framing.. you have a really good eye.. Blacks in a few shots seem a bit too crushed as said above.. I'm sure you will tweak it again, cant wait to see the moving images..

Thanks

Thanks

LostinSound - I shot this in 720p 24p. Which means is records 24 frames over 60i. If you can afford this camera def. get it. I saved for two years and it was the best $5000 I ever spent (including my car, which is in the video; and I LOVE my car.

I understand that in the grabs some of the scenes seem a little dark. In premiere it didnt look as dark but for some reason when I export it it seems darker. I will go back and do some tweaking.

Thanks All

Well I have everything but the sound done. I have been having problems with my adobe suite so as soon as I am able to clear that up I will try to finish.

No, I didnt add any noise, but when I messed with the brightness and contrast it made it a little more visible. This was my first chance to use the HVX so I am still learning about how to get the camera to perform it's best. I have been reading through the HVX Book and I am so glad it came because I would be lost without it. Thanks BARRY !!!! :)

Hey those grabs look pretty tight !

I like the darkened feel of it. Adds to the drama of the situation.

I always find that the grain becomes more visible after colour correction, usually when I really have to bring the blacks and the whites in to pop 'em.

But it does add to it. Looks cool. Lets see the edit !

Thanks
Richard

Looks awesome, reminds me of the CW's Supernatural. I love that show. Best of luck and get that video done!

Michael

That's what I'd say.. bit harsh on the blacks.... and I'd try and push whatever highlights you have to add to the contrast... nice though

funny that there's another short on here named "detour" on user films, but Im excited to see this.
