Letus Extreme and Sony EX1 test short

Did you check your footage before the ice skating bit and notice the vignetting? It seems that you don't have that issue one you got to the rink. Or did you only see it when you got home?

Also, out of curiosity, are you going to test the Brevis with your EX? Just to get s general sense of the edge to edge performance?

thanks guys. All the vignetting was done in post. Sequentially I actually shot the first chunk of ice skating first then went around the gardens then came back and filmed them cleaning the ice then the sun setting/ nightime shots.

Indiislider is not great. I have one and am very disappointed in it.

The Wally Dolly is by far the quickest, lightest, simplest dolly I have ever used. It sets up in minutes, works on bumpy ground and is super smooth and all in a tripod sized bag.

It is so much better than the indisnap and much easier and quicker to use.

Would you mind telling us what you don't like about the Indislider?
I was thinking of getting one as a portable "dolly" solution.

The Wally Dolly looks good but it's pretty pricey, $1600 U.S.!
What tripod do you use on the wally dolly?

Golly gosh! I ordered an extreme two weeks ago, and seeing the vignetting in the kew gardens piece gave me the chills. You shouldn't be playing around with such explicit content as post-vignetting. Some of us got a weak heart you know.

C'mon. The sony vignetting issue is a blessing. Think of all the post time you save putting in fake vignettes for make it look nice. It's all done optically for you! Seriously though Sony have that issue all sorted now. Mine is going in soon to have a firmware upgrade. They told me there is nothing mechanical that is going to be done to it.

Uhm... I was thinking more about the Letus Extreme, but it's nice to hear that the EX1 is having it's vignetting problem sorted out as well, as I'll try I and replace my HVX with one of these babies next year.

Philip hi,

Could you tell us your postproduction workflow....shooting xdcam ex and then what...in what format are you doing the color grading in magic bullet looks....how do you find the 4:1:1 xdcam ex footage postproduction wise?? do you need to transfer to make freeze frames, dissolves, time remaping and such as we were forced to do whene editing in the hdv format....I find the p2 hvx200 workflow very nice becaue I shoot i dvcpro hd and stay in the same format all the way through to final delivery and that I like a lot.....please let me know your feedback because this is huge issue for me in terms of switching from hvx200 to sony...and btw I work on a macintel 2,66ghz with 4gb of ram...

best regards

Phillip,

I am blown away by your footage. I need to start bringing my camera outside a bit more and capturing just people walking. Its very nice.

I have an HVX-200 and I was wondering if anyone out there knows how I can possibly achieve the same streaky light that Phillip got in his first Letus test. I can run the frame by frame mode, but it wont overexpose the light streaks like that. Any Ideas?

Thanks

I have been editing in native Xdcam hd for over a year and especially with final cut 6 have zero problems. I love it and never transcode to pro REs

The pro disc workflow is still my favourite as those discs are so solid. High capacity, cheap and last forever. Am still getting used to the workflow of the ex1 cards but am getting there!

Ok. Done a new short to test out my shift/ tilt lenses. 80% was done using the 65mm and 85mm Hartblei lenses. Go to my blog at www.philipbloom.co.uk and read all about it and see the film.

I thoroughly recommend these lenses. Obviously in the future I won't use them for every shot. This was after all a test, and a very succesful one it was! It's called "Lost Times"
