Do you guys go to mpeg for DVD from Timeline or from .Mov

80 minutes of 10 Bit 4:2:2 uncompressed DV = 100GB.
Time to output from FCP = about 2 hours.
Time to convert from 25 fps to 23.98 in cinema tools = seemingly instantaneous
Time to convert to Mpeg for DVD in compressor? stay tuned.

I did a quick scan through the thread so this might have been mentioned already:

There is a small difference between outputting to Compressor from the Timeline versus outputting a Quicktime movie first: If you do it through the Timeline, Compressor will use the original source material and by pass any lower quality renders you had in the Timeline. Depending on your exact workflow, it could make for a subtle difference in output, but nothing major.

Which doesn't help a whole helluva lot if I am clueless...

So, I am pretty much wasting all that output time (it takes a lot longer to output through compressor than a QT file from the timeline) for an SD project shot on miniDV?

If you've stayed in DV the whole way, I would just export a reference movie from FCP and import that into DVDSP.

That's how I've gotten my best results by far, and it's quick and easy.

In my experience, using compressor to compress DV into MPEG2 makes baby jesus cry from frustration.

Why transcode to anything?

All you are doing is transcoding whatever artifacts or issues you have.

I export self contained current settings and it seems to be very good.
