To HVX or not HVX

Hahahahaha

"I plug that son of a b**** in there, and BAM my sh** is downloaded quicker than sh**"

I don't know if this guy intended this video to be funny, but I laughed.

I got a few minutes in and tuned out. I can't listen to ten minutes of a guy driving around talking about P2 cards.

I think from 6:30 on to the end has some great insight. The best thing IMO is starting at 8:10 to the end. It's the primary reason I want 4k over HD, for my film.

"Great insight" might be pushing it a bit.
He basically said you need to not only have a good story, but it has to look good and that's why its important to use the best gear you can.
Nothing really controversial or groundbreaking there.

But people keep telling me that I don't need to shoot 4k and that HD would suffice.... When there's really no reason to limit myself to HD.

Well, personally I think those people are right - but at the end of the day that doesn't really matter does it?
If you want to shoot 4K and you can afford it...go for it.

You don't need 4K. All other things being equal, it would be better. But all things are rarely equal. The money you spend on 4K over HD might get you a better DP, a better sound guy or an extra week of shooting.

Perfection can be the greatest enemy of progress.

I've already settled on a DP, sound guy and we're filming with 10 cameras (divided over 3 sets per day.) for 6 weeks.

So then, it seems you were looking to have your pre-existing opinion reinforced instead of challenged.

Where are you going to get 10 4K cameras for 6 weeks?

Sorry, didn't see your post. I'm working with somebody in the UK and somebody else in LA for financing, but I have nothing in an account yet.

Cool - not really any of my business anyhow.
Probably shouldn't have asked, but I saw your sig on the REDUser forum which said it had been cancelled.

Well, I can't say I think 10 cameras shooting 4K is what I would do...but regardless, I'm glad to hear you're still moving forward and wish you the best of luck with it.
Its an ambitious project, that's for sure.
