New Sachtler Soom System - Thoughts? Info? General Discussion?

Hi Everyone,

I'm a huge fan of this site and have been guilty of trolling for quite some time. I am an extremely lucky person to be able to own an HVX200 along with a Firestore FS-100, and have found these forums to be an incredible resource. After buying the HVX Book, and the HVX Boot Camp DVD's, I consider myself long overdue for taking part in the great dicussions here.

Anyways, enough of that boring stuff.

I did a thorough search of the forums and surprisingly have found no mention at all about Sacthler's new Soom system:

I'm interested to know the community's thoughts, opinions, info, and insight into this seemingly great new product.

Anxiously awaiting your responses and glad to finally be a part of the group.

Cheers,
Kian

Interesting stuff. Sachtler doesn't do things half-assed, their products are usually very good.

I have owned a Video 20 and I now own a DV-6SB that I have paired with Miller Solo DV legs. That said, this looks like an interesting modular system but I bet it is expensive. I have a Manfrotto/Bogen monopod that I bought from FilmTools for $100.00 that works great with the HVX.

I also will say that their new heads, the FSB-2 and FSB-6, while I am sure that they are great, seem to be putting too much emphasis on having a built-in battery. Anyone in the U.S. who bought an HVX for most of this year received the free Anton Bauer Elipsz, which is essentially the same thing. The FSB-6 has a maximum capacity of only 13.2lbs, while my DV-6SB has a maximum capacity of 20lbs. Anyone considering any kind of lens adapter rig will easily surpass the 13.2lb weight limit, at least with an HVX they will.

I would be curious what it will sell for. Most of us have either sandbags, a CineSaddle or a hi-hat for low angle stuff and many of us have a monopod. I guess if you need 94" height for weddings and events, might be nice? I am sure it is a great system but I am curious whart it will sell for.

Interesting... I haven't heard a thing about this. And I'm still waiting for the FSB-6 that Sachtler was supposed to send me several months ago to test. At any rate, Sachtler and AB are the same company (Vitec Group) and they also own both Kata and Petrol. I personally think the marketing is geared to heavily toward the battery and not enough toward the head itself. I would imagine the price point on that would be quite high. It would also be constructed very well. And keep in mind the weakness of the dollar versus the Euro.

I have a Mint Soom for sale. Too much tripod for my needs but damn! If I had a real camera, this would be the right rig!
