Was thinking of switching to flash to a 7-8 inche (700 by 385) H.264 since it seems pretty clear and loads well on my end, but I'd like a survey just so I can get a sense of what % of people have trouble playing files at that size - though they seem reasonable...

It's clips from a wedding I've previously posted, but these are other sections of the video...just using it as a prototype for now.

Let me know if it stutters/too much artifacts etc. Video comments welcome as well.

Shot on DVX and A1 cameras.

NOTE: It uses the QTNext feature, which plays a string of separate videos one after the other, the first two I haven't posted here yet, but the third one was, so you can ignore the last one. Thanks.

Nice footage Psynema. I had no problems playing the clip through, although I had some tearing going on, but that may just be QT acting up on my PC. There was also a shot outside where the sky went from orange to blue? It looked like a sky replacement gone wrong!

What did you use for stabilization? The camera moves look very fluid.

It loaded quick on mine (about 900 Kbps cable) looked pretty good. Yes it had artifacts, but pretty acceptable. Really kicks to have demo work that size. Good work.

that looked really good. ive been trying to get my footage to come out that clear. what were your capture presets and export settings? it looked so clear and soft. also, what were you in camera settings like?

if you dont mind me asking...

Thanks all, glad it seems to be loading well for everyone.

John - used a Glidecam with the A1, and the 2nd cam was on a DVX.

AD4 - don't remember the camera settings, but I did edit the video in HD for the A1 footage - YES I had the misfortune of mixing HDV with SD DVX in one timeline...my Mac is very sore from all the rendering LOL. (Yes I know it was stupid LOL, but really wanted to play with the HD footage as I shot this earlier this year after I just got the Canon, alas).
Also was a pure 24p timeline as well.

Still not sure on the QT settings, as I generally use Flash, and it can be a lot of trial and error with Quicktime, but the quality sure does seem to blow Flash away.

In Final Cut Pro

Export, Quicktime conversion - Streaming-Medium, as H264 codec

Usually I export at the full frame rate of the actual video, as it provides a clearer image with less stuttering. Set keyframing to automatic. 800KPS streaming data stream limit. Set to 700 by 370, with the HTML embed set to 700 by 385 to make room for the controller. Frame reordering turned on, though I doubt it matters since I shoot progressive anyway.

ONE IMPORTANT THING - Video and internet pixel sizes aren't the same ratio. So I set the FCP timeline to SQUARE PIXELS. This will make the video seemed stretched in the timeline, but when converted, looks normal.

Audio - I really skimp here to help the loading, but I really don't notice much downgrade - 22kHS MONO at 64 kps.

Internet Prep - Fast Start

AGAIN - still not entirely keen on QT/H264 settings - maybe Frame Reordering can not be checked, but just left it as is - I would do a test export, but 5 minute clips ARE TAKING OVER AN HOUR to convert, so yeah...LOL - if you want to try this - HAVE PATIENCE.

File sizes are about 10MB per minute, give or take depending on if you shot on 24p or 29.97 -

YET ANOTHER GREAT ADVANTAGE OF USING A DVX 24 P - You can get by using the actual framerate a lot better, not worring about interlacing (which does mess up internet quality) and the lower framerate does help with loading and streaming rates LOL. Fun to actually have a full frame rate at 24fps and not have to reduce it to 15 like the 60i'ers LOL.

I want to achieve that exporting from PP CS3 or QT pro, any help?

Don't know PP Pro, but you should be able to just copy the above settings - every compression has those settings pretty much so long as you have the latest quicktime w/ H264.

I don't have that option :/.

Could you look into the manual settings behind the medium preset and tell me what bitrate it is at?

Cool beans, that video loaded in like -10 seconds. I want that.

Good to know it was an asset - I was thinking it would be a "is it at least tolerable" sort of thing

Just open the clip up in QT Pro and see if you can just input all of those things I listed above via Quicktime Conversion (don't know if you can do that straight from PPro or not.

I'm doing it, I figured it out now, (in QTpro) although it is giving me an error message.

Hmm...don't know about that - I do know it takes a looooong time.

Like 10 mins per minute of video...using a 2ghz 2.0 ram machine

I hope you don't mind the question, this post being about QT H.264 Export Settings and all however, I'll ask anyway. Did you up rez your footage with the DVX or did you down rez your footage with the A1? I'm assuming you uprezzed the DVX footage is that correct?

Down res - delivered in SD. Just quicker that way to, the HD automatically is conformed to the smaller dimensions, SD you have to manually size up each clip.
