Sorry for the caps, just wanted your attention, i was experimenting with some HVX footage and exported an image sequence out of Sony Vegas, then batch ran the plugin GENUINE FRACTALS on the stills, i was able to blow up to 4K without resolution loss at all or any visible artifacts. then the still sequence was reimported and realigned in vegas at 2k (thats the max in vegas) BUT you get the point. it can be done, it takes time and patience and carefulness, 2k is possible right now.

more to come...

ok, my pleasure

hahaha. I think you will have to put links to download. this board seems to down-rez the image to the same size.

I'm thinking of doing this on some footage that I need to stabilize. I shot 720 and I was thinking of uprezing to 1080 this way. stabilizing the footage and the croping it to 720.

You might also want to look at this:
http://www.americaswonderlands.com/digital_photo_interpolation.htm#Kneson%20(Standard)

Seems to me that stair interpolation (which is regular Photoshop interpolation done in small increments by way of actions) works very well. and I might even like it better than Genuine Fractals.

But then I also have PhotoZoom Pro 2, and DAMN! that thing rocks. Seems to be amazing. I believe PhotoZoom Pro 2 is the next version over S-Spline 2 which someone recommended to me over Genuine Fractals.

Hope that helps.

iam having trouble uploading to this site, still trying, and iam also trying this on an actual clip using my own recipe. more to come:grin:

The attraction to Hydra and/or Andromeda (for me at least) was having uncompressed footage with fully intact color sampling and increased dynamic range. Uprezzing, no matter how clean, isn't going to give you anywhere near the equivalent to Andromeda footage.

Gotta add a couple ingredients tomorrow, i'll post an uncompressed 4k file tomorrow from our beloved HVX. You dont gotta dream. its here already. i'll upload somewhere allowing 1gb and up.

freaking awesome thats all i gotta say for now

i think i'll call it, "Real Dream". patent already in the works.

I don't get your point. First, the flash video could be shot on a mobile phone and it would look pretty much the same (it's too much compressed and it's in a very low resolution). The idea of upscaling is not new and many people have already experimented with it. The problem is that you will never actually gain any real information. Although these programs get better and better its not a substitute for recording native 2k or 4k. Its similar to creating slow motion with your editing program. In can look pretty good in certain cases and there are some fine programs out like twixtor that do a really good job but still, nothing beats a camera that actually can shoot in higher frame rates.... sorry for my bad english...

Exactly what Luis said. 2k is meh. 4k is even more meh.

Uncompressed, 1080p60p, these were the things that really counted.

Isn't this thread really about indie post: cc, noise removal, upscaling, film transfer? Scaling is just a portion of it all. If you want to compare scaling then you should compare the software methods evolving right now to the dedicated hardware scalers to see if we can begin to get decent scaling from low-cost software, right?
