Hi Guys,

I didnt know which section to post this in so im trying here since many of you are well aquainted with NLE systems and computers in general. Is There a way to hide or change a title bar of a program in windows xp. I hope you get what i mean. When a program opens it has a name of the program on the top title bar. Can i change that to a string of my own. Or at least just hide it ?

Not sure that you can do it within Windows, but if it's for some kind of presentation you're editing, you can do it in post.

The values of some titlebars can be edited via the registry.
But: BE CAREFULL .. make a mistake in the registery and you can *really* screw some stuff up.

The title wouldn't be driven by a registry value, unless the application was coded to pull the text from the registry, though I'm not sure why you would do that.

It is generally programatically defined in the application code, not from some external means. However, it is possible to hide and/or change the title bar, though it requires an additional program be built and it would require some serious effort to first identify the windows object(s) to be touched/changed and then affect the change.

What are you specifically trying to accomplish? Knowing that might help give a clearer answer.

Generally you can do it by using a resource editor. There are some free ones like...

I just tested it by changing the title of Windows Notepad.exe.
( String Table/1/1033 =
5, " - !!String Table 1-1033!! Notepad"
)

If anyone is going to play around with it, work on a copy of the exec file so as not to destroy it accidentally. And don't forget this is a hacker tool. Use at your own risk.

I don't think this is much of a hacker tool, for that you need W32Dasm and Softice, + LOTS of assembly.

But good find none the less.

Some applications use checksums to prevent that, so it may or may not work

Also, your OS or AV may scream bloody murder if it finds a changed .exe

That being said, give it a try. Can't hurt if you just work with a copy of it first.

If you want a REAL adventure, go to a command prompt and change the program using debug. :)
