Live Free or Die Hard

I couldn't find a thread for this so if there is one, I'll merge this one with it if someone points it out.

I went into this film not expecting too much, and just got around to renting it this week. I know everyone has been raving about it.

Wow

I loved it. Easily trumps Parts 2 and 3. One of the coolest action films in a long time. They really got it right.

Some of the action scenes were a bit over the top for my liking, but man, good times. Great performances.

I really can;t say I have a complaint on this one. I gave it a 8/10 IMDB Stars Rating

It's an action film and suceeds 100% and Bruce's best film since 1997's The 5th Element.

I'd dare say it ? I'd welcome PART 5 !

The greatest thing with this sequel is that it had fun with being the 4th one of the series and recognized all of these things that continually happened to the protagonist. I too went into it expected crap but I was surprised that I enjoyed the film right away. I also went to see it with my mom and she had a blast as well. The film is a perfect example of mindless fun.

Exactly jPeck

I emphasize ACTION in my small critique. Just a pure action film. Some of those sequences were crazy. How good of shape is Bruce in ? At 52 ? Damn.

I think his age really works well with the personality of his character in the series. I have seen some not so flattering pictures of him recently, but he looked great in the film and that is all that really matters. If he can pull off another film like this, I am all for it. It has to be all the younger chicks he is hooking up with.

I thought this was a great popcorn action flick that didn't require any thinking on my part. My only complaint is how over the top some of the action sequences were. I don't understand why the ante has to be upped with each incarnation.

When I popped the DVD in, it gave me the choice of the Theatrical Release or the Unrated version...I watched the unrated version. At least his dialogue sounded like John McClane that way.

For me, this was on a par with Die Hard with a Vengeance. It succeeded in what it was trying to be, a mindless fun action romp.

This was the best of the sequels.

But like the other sequels it doesn't come close to the first.

Exacly...

I remember when my buddies took me to see Die Hard 2....man, was that garbage. We all loved the first one, and would watch it together all the time.

This was back when I had just begun to wake up to film...what was good, what was bad, based on more than shooting, some action and stuff like that. I'd say 80 percent of my friends liked it, but when I pointed out some of the weaker points, they reversed their opinions, for the most part.

This last one was ok. Blaine is right about outdoing one's self in terms of action and situations. Twenty years ago a car or ship or person used to get out of the way of an explosion a split second before it reached them...then, it was just as it reached them...now they emerge from the explosion riding a wave of concussive energy while flames envelope them from all sides.

Where do you go from there?

I'd give DH4 a 6.5 out of ten. Its like eating a Chinese combo-platter....a little of this, some of that, it all tastes good and hits the spot...45 minutes after it's done, you're feeling unfulfilled.

I liked the movie, but it's only number 3 for me in the series.

The characters besides of Bruce didn't work for me, especially the villains.
The parcour guy was cool, but he was only in because it's hip today. And he died way too early.
And then the whole nerdy internet stuff... I mean, can't they spend like 50 bucks for someone who actually operated a computer before and ask him if it's somewhat realistic? Everytime I heard them talk about the "firesale" I wanted to punch someone. And they mention it alot.

Some of the action scenes were too "die harder". The car flipping over bruce, missing them by inches, the shoot-the-helicopter-with-the-car thing und the whole Raptor scene. Too over the top for me.

I thought it was pretty decent but to me, it didn't feel at all like a Die Hard movie.

A bit over the top? I'd say more like downright rediculous and I loved every second. I saw it on the big screen and it was a great ride. I dug the Kevin Smith character. The best though was the unbreakable asian chick sequence. Yeah they really redeemed themselves after putting out the swill that was 2 and 3.

The Asian chick, as hot as she was, was the big one I had reserbations about. She is 5' 6 and a Buck O Nine so her inflciting any real damage or force on Bruce left me rolling my eyes

It's not like it was Gina Davis !

But

I still loved the film.

A fun flick, for sure. I've watched the DVD a few times already and this topic makes me want to watch it again.

:)

Thank you.

This film was a romp, and as long as you view it that way it's great. Anybody who works out or has any concept of athleticism probably had a hard time staying in the movie during those fights.

My logic processing part of my brain is the guy on the right... my desire to watch a fun movie is the guy on the left... the guy on the right is a lot smarter and tried to ruin this movie for me constantly. :nads:

The car killing the helicopter, and the entire fighter jet sequence just screamed bullsh*t, but overall a good fun movie. His sidekick had some rough parts, like when they were stealing the car, but hey- it's a freakin movie.

And as far as the little Asian chick kickin butt? Possible, and believable. Women tend to be a little quicker than men, and may not have the sheer mass to inflict as much damage, but with properly aimed strikes it could happen. However, they don't tend to take a solid blow and shrug it off. While she may have been able to get in a few good licks, a solid haymaker should have crumpled her.
