Record uncompressed 14-bit (4:4:4) on your HVX200

This is pretty sad. =\

Huge advocate of Hydra potential... now let down.

No matter who bought it, even if it does see the light of day it won't be for quite some time. And what's worse is that we won't be able to enjoy the beta testing stage in the community because there won't BE one for the community.

Just some company with money. Although it's good for Juan and crew if they got money, it sucks for us.

Even if, in a rather seriously strange turn of events, an affordable Camera option becomes available in the HVX200 range that includes Hydra technology... it still means spending more money to get it. Hydra as a modification to my existing purchase was economically sound.

Selling my camera and then spending even more money is not.

Again, who says that whoever the buyer is, wouldn't conduct the same business model? We don't know anything yet. I doubt anybody would spend money just to "squelch" the technology -- they've got a use for it. Whether it's to offer it the same way Juan was planning on, or as an integrated model or ? Don't know, but it makes very little sense for anyone to buy a company just to kill or bury the technology they just paid so much money for!

I hate to theorize or even feed those fires, but seriously people...

Do you really think Panasonic is gonna offer Hydra HVX? I don't think so, why? Just look at their camera line up, high price cameras that don't even come close to Hydras performance... not happening. If anything, it would end up in a more expensive camera.

And that would be a tragedy.

Exactly.

Although I do agree that speculating until any solid information appears is bad, it's what we've been left with.

And, I also doubt that anything as low-cost and amazing a product that was PLANNED for delivery will even fit into another company's agenda.

It could very well be a new camera with everything we want. Still, idea's that Hydra was another investment in an already existing package. If it's not that, then it kinda bites.

Who knows? But here's my angle on it: a Hydra'd HVX would probably beat the living hell out of a rolling-shutter'd CMOS EX1. So -- if it looks like the EX1 might actually catch some traction, how simple would it be for them to roll up the Hydra and offer an HVX300 with VFR @ 2k, but with no rolling-shutter nonsense?

Anyway, who knows, we'll see when Juan addresses the situation.

I agree, it doesn't make sense that Panasonic would buy this and release it. They made the camera, there are probably few if any patents on the Hydra, and the software would have to be mostly recoded for widespread release anyway. So if P wanted to release a "Hydra class" HVX, they would just make it.
Seriously, how many people would pay $3000 for a hydra upgrade instead of $4500 more for a hydra-class HVX, when you consider things like support, software, drivers and WARRANTY? Plus it would probably have better integration between subsystems and actually write to p2. If Panasonic bought this company it was a strategic error no matter what they do with it.

Well for this rumor to have any merit, Jaun's going to have to make an official announcement in the next day or so. Because if it is true then Jaun must have decided to let this guy know ahead of time for reason that it wouldn't hurt a potentially huge announcement by letting the cat out of the bag a little bit early...this is the only thing i could come up with as to why Jaun would tell this guy first and not the already established community. Why tell him first? I would think that he would have let his community know first.

I wouldn't be surprised if Canon bought the technology....after all they have no high end line of camera (like Sony and Pana) to compete against themselves..... XL H1 beeing their highest end handheld cam.... They could suddenly come up with a new cam and compete with the Red.... not to mention that they manufacture lenses and could also boost their Lenses sales this way as well...

I do believe that there may be some truth to the rumor.....the website has been redirecting to the forum for too long now.....potential customer of the Andromeda cannot purchase and modify any existing DVX ....the longer the website is "down" the more sales Juan would lose....

That's a good point Brian! Well, Juan hasn't post anything in his company's forum to dismiss the rumor so A) He is vacationing in Hawaii with no computer or cellphone access B) Rumor is true and like Brian suggested he is not allowed to discuss further

Darn!

Just tried calling the Reel Stream office number that is on the website.
It got forwarded to another number and went straight to voicemail.

I'm not sure if it always did that or not as I'd never called them before.

I got another theory, Maybe that one time poster that broke the news was just Juan telling us the only way he can.

Not likely seeing as the post claims that Juan told him via email.
If it WERE true, and if Juan couldn't say anything - then he probably wouldn't say anything - online or via email.

Who know's what's true and what's not. All I know is I should have bought an Andromeda system when I could have intead of my HVX a year and a half ago, because the HVX isn't going anywhere and I would have both by now. Anyone willing to sell their Andromeda?

I can kinda understand where you're coming from. I can't say that I would completely trade-in my HVX for an Andromeda system because you HAVE to use Andromeda to get HD ouf of the DVX.

sigh. That's what was so golden about Hydra + HVX. You had the best of every world in a small package: HD, SD, Uncompressed.

EX-1 is only HD (still right?)

DVX + ANDROMEDA is SD and Uncompressed only, no intermediate between the two.

Hydra was slated for everything, readily turning the HVX into a TRUE Swiss Army knife.

i contacted the company about buying a system several times over the last couple of months and got no response.... like people are saying i think this has been in the works for a long time

I have very persistently called, emailed, and begged Juan to give me some (ANY!) indication of when Hydra was coming out. His response: Nothing. Dead silence.

This game is over, gentlemen. I'd bet my HVX that Hydra is defunct. (But I'll only pay up when my RED arrives. :-)

It's really, really too bad. I was going to Hydra-ize two or three HVXs. But not now. NO ONE is getting Hydra.

My guess is that he is unable to communicate with us because he is working out a deal with someone. It's sort of like a gag order from a judge. Until the whole deal is worked out, you are not allowed to discuss anything with anyone. Otherwise, the deal is off.

Lets say Hydra does go through by way of a miracle, would anyone have any confidence in sending in a $5k camera to a company that doesn't respond to anyone?
