Is my web site working for you?

It was on credits, for sure, and I might have flipped that page open twice. So, you worked on Smokin Aces? Killer flick. Nice twists I didn't expect.

i just edited the behind the scenes piece on the DVD titled "The Big Gun" -- which is the title universal gave it. I had originally titled it "Knock 'Em Dead, Baby!"

Using an old PC running Win2k, and IE, I get the same problems as Mikko, and the sites seem slow.

Looking on the same PC surfing on FF is again fine. Looks as good as it did on my Mac running FF at home.

Basically, the answer is that people need to stop using IE, but unfortunately I believe it's still the most popular browser (baffling, but true).

The browser used is the preferance of each user. Most people (by a long long shot overall) use IE still .. and as much as web designers may hate it, it's somthing we have to live with and work for. Remember that websites are made for the audience, not for your favorate browser.

My website, which caters mostly to tech savy people - like the users of this board - of course tends to draw in lot of FireFox users.
And sure enough, this month so far:
17.7% of visitors used Firefox 2.0
12.6% of visitors used IE 7
12.2% of visitors used IE 6
10.4% of visitors used Safari

I also got hits from:
Opera (various versions)
Firefox 1.5
Mozilla
Konqueror
IE 5 (!!)
Nokia WAP Mobile
Camino
Netscape (as old as 7.2)
and even 2 hits from IE 4.0 (!!!) - Maybe one of those 2 was the producer who called me out of the blue for a Job interview the other week? I don't know. But I certainly wasn't going to tell him "get FF; you nOOb". :)

However, if we ignore browser versions:
25.2% (1390 hits) IE
19.6% (1079 hits) Mozilla (Inculding FF of course..)
10.4% (573 hits) Safari
1.8% (97 hits) Netscape
1.1% (62 hits) Opera

So in overall numbers, IE had 5.6% more viewers than FF/Mozilla. That's 311 hits more.
And that's a LOT of reasons to make sure it works equally well on both systems.

There's also 460 (of 5975) hits in there that my webserver couldn't get browser data on for whatever reason.

Just beacuse 16:9 is 'better', doesn't mean that we can ignore the masses out there with a 4:3 TV.

- Mikko ... has a 4:3 TV actually.

Mikko is dead on, you can't ignore older systems and browsers. Grandma and Grandpa might not really care about bleeding edge, and just check email on the system their daughter bought them 4 years ago. If it works, there's no reason to fix it.

Mikko - Those percentages only add up to around 60%. Is the other 40% using Amiga? lol :)

Various other smaller browsers, and a notable collection of serach engine robots.

For example something called "isara robot v1.2" keep downloading Barry's 10K video from my archive over and over again. :lipsrseal

Glad to see the bot is doing its job. Once the crawl is complete we will have the webs only resource for all things Barry.

.... bot v1.3 is for Mikko.
