HPX white balance

I have a shoot next week with this camera, and after reading over the manual, I'm a bit perplexed.

No optical white balance presets (this ISN'T a very attractive design IMHO)?

I'm used to bigger cameras like this having optical presets.

Does anyone here know what the cameras native white balance is? I have a funny hunch its probably around 5600, but until I can run over the camera next week, I don't have too many other ways of finding out.

Thanks!

When WB switch is in Preset, use the Manual WB switch on front of cam to select either 3200 or 5600 (push up to toggle). BUT - the 5600 is very cyan. Should manually WB instead.

It performs well under any light (even like in 40watts of night time house hold light!), the noise is very low IMO. I have not noticed any difference in noise in 3200k-5600k lights or white balances. I like using mixed lights, white lights for ambiance and then using warmer lights for accent or vice versa. I don't think you will be disappointed working under any lights with the hpx500...

I don't always like to do manual WB in daylight situations because one of the things that shouts "video" to me is a perfect white - Daylight, depending on weather and the time of day, has subtle shades of blue to gold - of course, if you need to match shots, then you must WB and use filters, like corals or straws, instead - also, DVCPRO HD is very fixable in post, one of the things I like about it.

In order to have a true preset, find a place where you can manually WB at 5600k (under an overhang on a sunny day is close) and assign it permanently to the B preset - that's what I've done.. although sometimes I actually like the cyan bias of the built-in preset.

Don't use the 5600k preset on an HPX500 until they fix the green tinge issue. Definitely use manual white balance instead.

Happy Tday everyone!
Thankfully not shooting today!

Yeah, they killed it thats for sure.

The recommended process is manual WB then BB then WB again (per the user guide).
