Well, i have two choices,

Scriptwriting: Script writing process, including developing objectives, writing research agendas, designing content outlines writing a treatment, writing a training script, marketing script, and dramatic training script. Dramatic motion picture screen play format, the dramatic curve, believable character creation and dialog and creation of the first ten pages of a screenplay.

Video Prod. : Video production technology including Electronic News Gathering (ENG) & Electronic Field Production (EFP) styles and equipment usage. Corporate, cable, and broadcast applications. Basic production techniques in scriptwriting; single camera film style shooting; lighting, audio recording; and editing; post-production techniques, production personnel and their roles, budgeting and copyright issues.

I'm not going through a hardcore film school, these are just minor classes i can take during school. Im gunna be doing alot of action sports, commercials, and in the future, indie films. so i was wondering. wut should i take as of now. i know quite a few things, alot of things actually, from just reading dvxuser alone. any advice?

I mean, from directors i admire greatly, they dint do much film school at all, and i plan to keep it as my minor (in a way). so, im gunna take the few classes that still give me credit, and just learn as i have been.

Take the production course...especially if the equipment is new.

Pretty much anything you can learn about scripwriting can be found in books, and by watching films with an eye towards the writing. The rest is through sharing the writing and getting feedback. It's like regular writing...you can be taught to spell and make sentences, but can you really be taught how to write?

Production courses are more fun, too...

I would have said, take the scriptwriting class.

Everything starts with story and having a solid foundation in structure is incredibly valuable.

How about English 101?

y do people care so much about grammar on forums? yea its my 3rd year in college and im doing fine, ill worry about grammar when im writing an essay. get a life.

thanks everyone, yea i think im gonna take VP, cause it has some form of script writing in it as well.

I say take script writing because that production class sounds like the really boring 3 camera interview production class. So unless you enjoy the cinematic efforts of shows like dr. phill and the tyra banks show, I think you'll be pretty bored.

Older folks, behold the future of screenwriting/film/media as we know it.

*shrug*

Plenty of older types out there who can't string a sentence together, or spell the words contained therein, too...

Grammar, spelling, etc are tools, just as cameras and lights are tools. Sloppy, careless writing, even on a message board, doesn't reflect well upon the sloppy writer; why should anyone assume you can do better, if this is all they see?

*ducks out to the corner store, gets a life, and returns*

I'd go with the production class. It's non-book stuff; you can absorb most if not all of what you need, writing-wise, from the bazillion books out there, plus practice.

Agree with above, i learnt screenwriting in my spare time. Accidental most of it, just mostly via writing scripts and so on. Like he said there's still a million tutorials, books, videos, and people willing to give advice. Especially with a place like dvxuser.com

However with Production, it's not as simple as using your mind and pen to write. There's alot more involved from cast and crew to equiptment and tec crap.

I'd personally go for production. Should have held a poll. =]

Not beating up on the younger crowd, it's a "generation gap" thing for me, which takes some getting used to. Ie. text messaging abbreviations becoming the norm for spelling: "y do people care" Who are you, Prince?

To me, it's just laziness, but I'm 35...out of the loop. I mean, what the hell is "pwn3d"? (Rhetorical question)

or:

"Don't use all caps in your post."
"DUDE I'M RENDERING IN AFTER EFFECTS"
"Oh."

OK, I'm done brain farting. I have no corner store to go to, nor a life.

scriptwriting class sucks (at least it did at my school) I'd suggest taking SCREENwriting. I got the two mixed up and ended up in a class that was breaking down flowcharts of interactive cd-roms and radio commercials

haha, wow, that sounds like a horror story. Yea I will probably end up taking the Video Prod. class, and just read other material for the writing portion.

thanks to everyone btw.
