Anyone have any experience with ENG-44 mixer?

I came across this mixer the other day, looks decent, specs are OK and the cost is well cheap. The last mixer I saw in this price range (built for field use) was a Rolls and that had a pretty terrible rep for noise. So has anybody used this mixer and what were your experiences. I had a use for some extra channels the other day and I wouldn't mind not having to borrow a mixer on the occasions this comes up but I don't need the extra channels often enough to justify buying a larger SD mixer.
It probably stinks but??

wow I can't believe how cheap that thing is though!

just scanning down the specs, its half the weight of my 442!
amazing list of specs.

half the weight, a sixth of the price! I suspect at first glance that build quality may have been sacrificed for the sake of a Spec list. Which may be acceptable if only on the casing and cheap fader knobs etc, but if there are cheap components inside too, then it becomes unusable. I would love to hear this isn't the case, but its what behringer does, and they do quite well out of it!

could be a very viable low budget solution!

if you will invest a grand to improve it you might will be able work normally - waist of money as it comes from the factory.
i checked this one about 2 months ago -make a search in the forum

Actually after reading your very good review of the box it might actually work for what I need it for. The limiter could be an issue and I'm not thrilled with the Hi pass but it might be worth checking out. Especially since I have no problems opening it up and making modifications. Did you ever get a schematic from them?

I sent them an email. If I don't hear back I'll call, it's a bit more local for me...
If I manage to get one I'll send you a copy. I wouldn't be using this for a film shoot usually. More likely a few extra mics for an FX set up or the last time I needed to record a workshop of a new opera. They wanted all the singers on one channel and the orchestra on the other. Given the size of the two groups I needed more than one mic for each. I used the MixPre for the orchestra since I was worried about the dynamics and the music was more important than the singing (this was for the composer). The singers were more spread out and I used a Mackie 1202 for the other side. It worked fine but I had to run power for it and that is always an iffy proposition in a space you can check out in advance. I have other pre's that might have sounded better but they have absolutely no mixing capabilities so I would then have to have brought aline mixer to get them in to the other channel. Anyway if the pres are decent it would fit this need rather well. I see your problems with this as a production mixer.
Cheers
