MoviePoet.com - Hundreds of Short Scripts

I launched MoviePoet.com a year ago as a way of giving back to the internet film community that has given so much to me.

Every month we hold a free 5 page screenplay contest based on a theme. Many of our themes address the needs of independent filmmakers, focusing on things like cast size and location.

Currently, we have over 300 scripts in our database and a lot of talented writers looking for filmmakers to partner with. Registration is quick and easy (real names only) and the site is entirely free.

Whether you are looking for a script for LoveFest or just something to shoot for the hell of it, I hope you'll take a minute to read some of our scripts.

If you have any questions about the site or if you are looking for a particular kind of script, please let me know and I'd be happy to help you out.

I'm assuming if we decided to use one of these scripts we would need permission from the author correct? or by submitting their scripts to your website, do they allow us to use their scripts to make a film?

what if we were to use the script for fun/personal uses or for school projects for those of us in school?

Great question.

You absolutely have to get the permission of the author.

However, I think you'll find the majority of the authors are just looking to see their films get made and hopefully get a chance to network and collaborate with some talented filmmakers.

Personally, I have scripts that are near and dear to my heart and I wouldn't sell at all and then I have others that I have let students shoot for free, as long as I get credit and a copy of the finished film.

I guess what I'm saying is, it all depends on the writer and you should contact them directly (you can find their email on their member page).

Coolio. Just a quick question; I'm on a mac with Safari 3.0.4 and FF 2.0.0.9 and the text on the upper right side "Celebrating the beauty and economy [...]" overlaps the right panel (goes over the yellow main panel and the mauve side panel). Is this intentional, or does it look different on IE and windows (sorry, I don't have a win or IE machine near me).

I got permission to use a script from MoviePoet. She was as excited to have someone make her film as I was to be able to use her script. Chris is running a great site over there. If you are wanting to fine-tune your short film writing, or just find a great script, do yourself a favor and check it out.

Richie, Thanks for sharing your experience on MoviePoet.

John, Thanks a lot.

I waited almost a year before officially announcing the site here at DVXUser, as I wanted to make sure everything was running smoothly and we had a wonderful assortment of scripts for people to choose from.

As, I mentioned above, I've tried to run writing contests that would be beneficial to independent filmmakers, for example: scripts with one location, scripts with only one actor, and scripts that take place in the woods (no need to build a set).

I know there are so many talented filmmakers here. Many of them with equipment gathering dust while they wait for inspiration. Hopefully, this will help connect them with some talented writers who are eager to see their words brought to life.

Thanks everyone for checking out the site.

There are so many scripts there, in an effort to help out the potential LoveFest competitors, I started a thread listing some scripts that might be interesting for that contest.

Good news, I just heard from someone that they found a script at MoviePoet.com.

If anyone else ends up finding a script or connecting with a writer, please let me know, as I'd love to hear about it.
