"Berlin" - A Norm Sanders Film - DVD NOW AVAILABLE

Norm,
I can't wait to see this. You've really come a long way man and it really shows. I am highly impressed with what you've put together. Congrats to you and your crew and I hope you guys all got totally hammered at the wrap party.

Can't frickin wait.
Tim.

Hey thanks for posting the music vid! Chantelle and I really enjoyed watching it. I also showed my parents and they were really impressed.

Thanks, Shawn, I appreciate the kudos from you, Chantelle & your parents. You've known about this for quite a while, and I know have probably high expectations of what you'd envision from the story/script, so I'm anxious to see if we deliver!

Looks awesome! Can't wait until you release this one.

What running time are you aiming for? I may have missed that...

Cheers,

Mike

Thanks, Mike. I was thinking this would pace out to be a 20 minute film, with opening titles & ending credits, but the first act has already paced out more quickly than I thought it would (two page script, paced to 1:30). It's only a 15 page script, so if that keeps up, it may only be a 16 minute film, when all's said & done. Who knows ... still a LONG hard week of editing ahead of me.

wow norm, that is impressive, looks amazing. you and rebecca are one talented couple.
i can't wait to see the film!

Thanks, buddy! I wouldn't exactly call us a couple ... unless you count us fighting like one at times, lol. :nads: We're both happily married ... to other people. You probably already knew that, but other DVXusers have asked before, so I thought I'd clear it up here as well. :2vrolijk_08:

Norm, just checked out your video on your myspace page. (wmv file no good on my mac.) This is visually wonderful. I really love the location of the night club, incredible set. Great epic camera movement as well. Can't beat real Germans in a WWII film. good luck with it, visually it looks to be your best work yet. Keep us updated.

Jim

Thank you, Jim. You happened to hit my MySpace the day before it was hacked & deleted. Oy, what a day. It's been rebuilt now, good as new, just a lot less friends (rebuilding that as well). Everything really came together for this thing, some (like the barn, and our elderly couple) came together just THREE DAYS before we'd film those particular scenes. Yes, I was beginning to sweat at times, lol.

Due to setting the days/schedule, and THEN putting together my shot wishlist (backwards, I know), we ended up having to scratch a LOT of the shots I wanted, but when we were able to get a great shot, we tried to make it pop that much more. Great team on this one ... I'd make any movie with them!

Thanks, Tim. Hopefully when you're out here shooting in a while, we'll be able to catch up for a drink! I'm not sure that each film has progressed that much because of me, but more because of the team that's come together each time, and their skill sets improving. Visually, other than knowing a general look or camera angle I'd want, it was everyone else that did all the work, to get something to look ways that I wouldn't know how to do on my own. So the congrats definitely goes to the crew on this one, as well as probably all the past films. But thanks all the same! :)

Well, Norm and my husband definitely did get a bit hammered. Lol....

Not true. Sure, my wife drove home... and I hung my head out the window for fresh air ... but it's because I LIKE fresh air, and she wanted to drive.

Want to see more Norm! :)

Soon, patient one, soon! BTW, Brandon, I'm WAY behind on leaving comments on everyone's films (Tim & Keyser, as well as others'), but I wanted to say that yours was by far your best work yet, in the All Hallows Fest. Way to go!

No prob Norm :) I was wondering if you had seen WTTP or not yet :)

Looking forward to hearing what you thought of it!

Hey Norm
looking good!!

Is this a 20 minute feature ?
and will this be for sale to DVX members .Sorry if I missed this somewhere .
Ian

Thanks, Ian. We'll have it for sale, hopefully just before Christmas so Cast & Crew can get extra copies as gifts, if they wanted to, etc. Price point will be less than SPARROW was, that's for sure, and better quality all the way around as well. :)

Editing BERLIN right now, and came across a shot that I just LOVE the background lighting on, so I wanted to post a small grab of it, with some moderate CC (not a reflection of the final CC).

This shot is of Joe Grigsby, who was also in two of my Heinz commercials, asking Rebecca's character, Katherine, if she needs assistance as she's getting dragged out of the Cabaret by Robert, played by Shan Applegate:

This is a grab I pulled out when working on the first scene of the film (again, moderate CC, not a reflection of the final CC for the film) ... it only caught my interest simply because you can see how well Rebecca made contact with my face ... take, after take, after take.

that first grab is awesome. re-watched casablanca last night and the shadows in the background are ridiculous in that movie, that grab reminded me of that. cool stuff.

Thanks Grant & Ben. I've got to admit, that is one of the cooler shots in that scene, with regards to background lighting. It wasn't too often we had a huge empty canvas with incredible architecture to have fun with shadows & light with .... we typically either had close ups, or tried to have the frame filled with bodies & activity.

I'm happy to say that I've got a solid cut of both the opening scene, as well as the monster Cabaret scene, which right now that scene alone is well over 5 minutes, nearly half of which is the performance of the song. I'll probably cut into the song quite a bit, as it doesn't propel the story so much as is just eye candy ... so the final length of the scene will likely be closer to 3 to 4 minutes.

Wow, that thing was a monster to edit! Just a rough right now that I need to review a few times, and get other input on. Then the rest of the film I should be able to edit & finish in the next couple of days ... then off to Herman and Eric for score/audio!

Thanks, Paul!

I am SOOO behind on my self imposed edit schedule, it's disgusting. Life has had all kinds of interruptions, not to mention trying to get back on track with the day job.

That said, I've rec'd some feedback from people who watched the rough cut, and had not read the script or knew the story in advance. Even with the sound, cc, score, and everything else that still needs to be done, the responses were VERY positive, and also gave some GREAT input/ideas.

Rebecca's coming over later today so that we can write some additional VO based on the extra edits I'm making, and we'll record on the spot as well. Really hope to have this to Herman in the next couple of days, at the latest.

Then again, I've said that before ... oye....

I sooo want to see this...I am reading Night by Elie Wiesel right now and im in this mood!!!! cant wait... stupendous job with this project!

Thanks again folks for the continued support.

Though I still hope to have this wrapped up soon, which will end up being about 2 1/2 months after we wrapped shooting - not bad for the scale of work that's being put into everything, it has seemed like a pretty long journey so far.

The guy who was originally supposed to do all the BTS ended up kind of dropping the ball, and I've had to recover the tapes of all the footage he shot. Today, Jerry Turner (DVXuser's FIX IT IN POST) DP'd for me as we did greenscreen of all the rest of the interviews that still needed to be caught. Got them, and from what I've seen so far they've turned out quite well.

If anyone was impressed with the BTS for WHERE SILENCE FALLS, I'm sure they'll love this stuff. We'll have various BTS featurettes covering things from bloopers to technical tips, to how & why things came together, etc.

Can't say it'll be the step by step breakdown that the famous BROKEN has, but it'll be a pretty solid DVD when I'm finished with it.

Everyone to date has been pretty excited about the locked edit. I can't WAIT to get the 1st draft of the score from Herman, which should be arriving in the next few days! :)

I just watched the "music video". This looks great. Amazing production values.

I think it's great that this was shot without a 35mm adapter and I'm psyched to see the finished film. Best of luck with it.
