Hi all.

Here is the breakdown of our current dilemma. Any help would be more than appreciated.

We are shooting in Taiwan on the HVX200 in 720/24p.

We are recording to a Citidisk.

The production company insisted we use Edius so therefore the files recorded to the Citidisk were set to the Edius Canopus codec.

Since the company is in Taiwan and everything is in Chinese it is useless to me. On top of that I am only familiar with Avid and Final Cut. Avid being my go to.

We face a major communication barrier here and it is tough to get straight answers. I have managed to get a workstation set up at my apartment here with Avid and convinced the production company it would be more efficient if I just get to work with what I know.

That being said we have shot 4 scenes with the Canopus codec. My question is what is (if any) the workflow for being able to use the files I have now in Avid? I tried transcoding using Procoder but I am loosing major quality. Am I doing something wrong? Is there an easier way?

Please, please let me know of any workflow solutions you may have. I just want to use Avid and get to work. We also can't continue shooting until I am 100% sure I can change the Citidisk setting to a format we can use in Avid and if I can use the footage we currently have. Thanks so much. Sorry for the lengthy post.

What are you transcoding to? If you transcode then to DNxHD with the proper settings, I can't imagine that the drop in quality would be that noticeble.

What version of Avid? I guess DNxHD might not be an option if it's an older system. In that case you could transcode to Avid Uncompressed.

Just some thoughts.
