Wish I were banned.
I'm starting my own website and I'm trying to decide on a graphic/logo to use.

The name is Desolate Films.

I think this is decent but I'd like the bluish vector curve that goes through the tree to be behind it, and I can't figure out how to do this (help on this?).

So these are my two choices. Which one do you guys like better? Any other ideas?

edit - so far all I'm working on is a still logo. I'll manipulate it with motion after the still is solid.

The first one is a bit bright, but would make a nice web page....for sunrise films maybe.

Something more stark and stripped down, with muted colours maybe?

Put the tree layer on top of the vector layer.

It is.

I realize they're not quite "desolate" logos, but I meant desolate as in empty and alone. I think the first one is an interesting counter of the title. It's pretty opposite of desolate.

I agree. I have a few more versions of that one, all without the film strip.

I have about 5 more ideas if anybody is interested.

Just curious...who did you go with for hosting?

Am looking into it for myself, and have read the thread that was being discussed a few months back, but curious to know who you chose and why.

The first one but- there are too many lines going too many different directions. Get rid of the Tokyo flag (Unless you are Japanese), and the stripes. I also agree with muting the colors a bit. Maybe a washed out sepia tint? The flowery things on the right side also distract from the desolate image you want.

Neither really. Although, if I had to choose, the first one, but there's too much happening in it. It looks like something that would appear in a teen or youth magazine. What films are you making? Reflect that theme in your poster.

I agree with this.

Charli, I'll send you some more once I get back onto the computer that has them.

Thanks for the comments. I'm working on more right now.

For hosting, I'm going with our very own t-h-e-w-h-o. He gave away a bunch of free FTPs to people and I decided to get him to set up my domain and hosting and what-not.

As this is my first website, the "customer service" was definitely helpful (he walked me through the process via instant messenger).

I don't even know exactly what these are.

The first thing definitely isn't a logo. I'm still just brainstorming what theme I should keep. I'm glad you like the 2nd one Hudson, but I feel it doesn't have enough mood involved to impress.

I'm with Hudson. I like the second one a lot.

What's more desolate than the small wording hanging in a dark abyss, with very little light.

Good design is almost always a "less is more" thing, which is hard to achieve.

Maybe try to take out some of the other background elements on the second one and dim the lights a bit.
