It's not often that Barry Green makes it to this part of the world, so when I heard that he was the guest speaker at a seminar in Bangkok, needless to say, I dropped everything and headed that way.
By the time I arrived at the convention room the seminar was already over, but Barry was still on the stage (as he should be), surrounded by video equipment and computers (as he should be). I said "Hey, it's Barry Green" and he just smiled and turned his laptop around so I could see that he was in the middle of posting something on DVXuser (as he should be).
We spoke for a while and then he showed me an HVX200 and some amazing footage. Afterwards, as we walked out, Barry said he had a special gift for me back in his room. I had fallen for tricks like that in the past so I immediately yelled, "Stranger DANGER!!!" But he quickly covered my mouth and said, "Be cool and I promise, by the end of the night, you'll have an HD camera of your very own."
He knew my price, so I was cool. And, sure enough, a few hours later I had an HV20 video camera and a free tutorial on how to use it.
The next day we met up again so I could show him around Bangkok.
At one point during the tour we walked by an area known for its pirated DVD shops and we yelled at all the salespeople. Well, Barry yelled at them and I just translated what he said.
[cheesy ending] After Tuesday was over Barry went to catch his plane and I went to catch the night train back to Nong Khai. And as I sat on the train I realized, thanks to my Tuesday with Barry, I was leaving with more memories (and gadgets) than I arrived with. [/cheesy ending]
All kidding aside. Thanks to Barry for donating a video camera to my charity organization. It was an honor to finally meet and I promise we'll teach our students the importance of 24p and proper lighting.
