Edius to HVX to Mac, someone help or kill me please

Hello clever people

I am having a nightmare with my whole workflow due maily to computer problems but there should be a work around...

I have a short 1080 25p project on Edius that i am tring to compress for web but have two major problems:

1. Procoder is gone since i installed an update of Edius and it won't reinstall - I have tried everything from clearing out registry to unistall-re-installs and a million other things, but i have given up on that. Immediate problem then is that i can't export for Web directly.

2. Quicktime is also gone and never to return off my machine - i have tried every forum and help section in the known ether and nothing works, so i have given up on that too.

My solution then is to export my project to my HVX, and import to FCP and then export to QT from there. New problem: The file exported to the HVX shows up with a red "01", an "X" and an "E" on the thumbnails and so can't be used further.

I have tried to Dub in camera to make a DV file that i can capture in FCP or even iMovie but that won't work either.

Sorry for such a long and convoluted problem but that is my editing life at the moment, any ideas will be gratefully recieved.

Thanks

And another thing! Why can't i export directly to tape from Edius to my HVX?

I am totally out of ideas.

Any help would be great.

Keep cool underseafan

Imho you should fix your Edius/Procoder/Quicktime problems first. Then you could even ask your grandmother to do what you want ;-)
I'm convinced that bhiga could give you some tips&hints (use the EDIUS thread).

1. Procoder V1.5 is no longer supported in Edius V4.0 and later. Procoder V2 will work if you install the free Edius plugin from the Canopus support site. Procoder V3 comes with a plugin for Edius.

2. Edius uses QuickTime internally and will not run without it. It is impossible for QuickTime to be gone and Edius to still work.

3. The icons you see on the thumbnails aren't part of the image itself, they are there to provide status information. The 01 is the thumbnail/clip number, the "X" indicates the clip is defective, and the "E" indicates it is an edit copy.

What I would do to move your project from Edius to FCP is use the Print To File (F11) function and output to P2 -- either a card mounted through a USB connection, or a directory on your hard drive. Move the card contents / directory to the Mac, and use your normal P2 workflow to ingest the material into FCP.

Hi THoff

Why so complicated? I understand your circumvention but there must be a way to install the Procoder Express - it's part of EDIUS. And then it's easy to do what underseafan wants. Without EDIUS seems quite useless and I don't think he's going to throw it away after this project.
By the way - he needs P2 cards that fit his project.

True.

But the thread title indicates he wants to go from Edius to the Mac, so I tried to provide a solution. I do all my transcoding for the web in Procoder 3 (and Procoder Express for Edius before PC3 came out), and that works very well. I don't believe there is a need to go to the Mac first, but if that is needed / desired as part of the workflow, there are several ways to do it.
