How to transfer HVX footage uploaded to a Dell Laptop onto an Apple with FCP?

I am shooting a project this weekend with the HVX and the only on location laptop with a slot for the P2 card is a Dell Laptop. However I will be transferring the footage to a Apple G5 to edit in FCP.

What is the best way to upload the footage on location to the Dell Laptop, making it easy to later transfer to my Apple computer to edit in FCP?

Make a unique folder for each P2 card that you need to copy. Make sure to copy the entire contents of the P2 card into this folder.

When the time comes to move this to a mac just copy the folders onto a portable drive (fat32 for mac compatibility) or copy across a network to your Mac. Or you can burn to DVDs but that is not really practical.

As long as you keep the entire contents of the P2 card intact you should be fine.

But do you know which files are essential to keep and which are not?

I know it would make sense to copy the entire content of the card, but for our purposes we need to get the files off the card as quickly as possible, so it would be best to have to only transfer the essential files.

Thanks.

Keep every file. The video portion takes up about 97% of the space on the card, so even if you deleted every other file you wouldn't save more than a few microseconds in transfer.
