Hi All ---

A colleague of mine wants to shoot a doc in the desert at the Burning Man festival in Black Rock City, Nevada in August '08.

How well does the DVX camera function in the desert or in extreme heat?

If you've shot at Burning Man, what was the experience like? What equipment did you take and what would you recommend?

Thanks!
Jeff

I don't know why, but as soon as someone says "desert" I think "throw away your camers when you're done". I have dreams of "dirty jobs" and what happens to those cameras.

DV magazine just did an article on the team who shot Burning Man for broadcast. It was within the last 6 months I'd say. Lots of good stuff, such as the issue with sand.

Shooting in the sand is the same as shooting in the rain. Try your best to keep it off the camera and you'll be ok!!! Good Luck!!

I've never been to Burning Man, but I've heard that the playa dust is worse than sand. It's finer and it gets into everything. I would suggest asking for tips on Burning Man message boards.
