Hi there,

I went to a local shop today and bought some second hand lenses (and one new one) for my Letus Extreme that should be coming in a week or two.

What do you think?

28mm F2.8
50mm F1.8 * BRAND NEW
85mm F2
105mm F2.5
300mm F4.5

Cost me $788.32 (ZAR5200.00)

ya man, not bad,

your wide 24 though looks slightly slow, i would have tried for a f2, but maybe a 2.8 will work with a lot of light. your 85 looks good as does your 105.

right now i have a F2 24mm, 1.4 50mm, and im going to go for a F2 85 and F2 105mm. Gunna try to keep them F2 across, even. I find 1.4 or 1.8 just arents as sharp, and F2 seems to be a nice compromise between light loss and sharpness.

Papa - he's listed a 28mm, not a 24mm and you can't even get the Nikon 28mm faster than f/2.8 brand new now - f/2.0 if you look for used and they're pretty easy to find -

I'm shooting a 28mm f/2.8 and it's plenty fast for indoors - doesn't need a lot of light IMO.

Derrick,

Nice selection - I think you'll be happy and for the price - wow - you did well. Post some footage when your LEX shows up :)

I didn't see a 24mm on the list. f2.8 is perfectly fine for most applications. Most of my lenses are around f2.8 and, for daylight, they work great and I add a little supplemental light for indoors shots and I'm good to go. Especially with the lowlight capabilities of the Extreme

Derrick, you have an excellent selection of primes here. You did well.

EDIT: looks like Chenopup beat me to the punch :)

lol sorry, meant 28mm, jeez guys :P picky picky.

I only say this for use in low light situations, having worked with a 24mm at 2.8 ( friends with a brevis ) we noticed that with subtle 100 watt lamp fixtures around a room, just to see how much it lost in comparison the the stock camera, we noticed that it cut quite a bit of light, s'all im saying. a stop here or there is sometimes helpful.

My statement was solely a preference ( and yes, i light when i shoot so none of those learn how to light comments )

nice selection.. On the 50mm is it AF only? You might have a problem with the aperture remaining closed without some sort of electrical connection.

thanks everyone, I'll post some footage when the adapter arrives that's for sure.

I'm planning on using pro lights when indoor, or low light so like Disjecta said I should be ok.

Smithy, the 50mm does have AF, but also full manual control on focus aswell as on iris, so no problem there.

They had a second hand 50mm f1.4, but that is extremely shallow DOF, probably like nose infocus, eyes out, so you'll probably stop it down to 1.8-2.8 minimum, so that's why I bought the new 50mm.

THANKS to ALL the people making suggestions in the forum, it was based on that information that I made my selection.

lol i just reread how much you paid for them ALL..
jesus.. great price for so many lenses.

im about to pay close to... lets see...

24mm 2.0 was $270
35mm 2.0 was $200
50mm 1.4 came with my ifocus while back
85mm 2.0 currently at $140 but i have a max bid at $350
105mm 2.5 currently at $110 but have max bid at $350
135mm 2.8 currently at $110 but have max bid at $350

so potentially im going to be spending... CHRIST! $1400!!! :( hope i make some money back once they arrive!

Ok, I'm going to go make my bids $351.....HAHA!

Serisously though, 350 is too high for the 105 and 135, but that's just my $.02

i wrote that after checking on the other site which sells lenses, forget the name of it... but in comparison of prices, looked decent. where else would you suggest?

I use to hang around the audio forum till I found out I was hanging with a bunch of microphone addicts. Every other post was about which mic was best. So I decided to finish off my audio and get out of there fast, before I started buying them all. Now, Im in another frenzied forum and instead of mics its lenses. Ive got the same collection as above and Im still scouring Ebay and keh for zooms. I need a 12 step program... ouch

this is meant for a laugh guys....you are laughing right?

I sure as h3ll am

I own pristine Nikons.. 28mm 50mm 85mm 135mm and dont think i spent $350 total... must have done something wrong-

the slowest one is the f:2.8 135mm

The original poster did good!

I just didn't pay that much for mine, that's all. My most expensive lens was $375 for my Nikon 50mm f 1.2. But that was before the Extreme, and a million people wanting six lenses each. Maybe the market's gone up????

Ok, so I have now ordered the:

Cinevate Rails System - 15mm Carbon, 45cm long,
Redrock microFollowFocus Indie Bundle
with extra microLensGears to fit the lenses.

Hope it all works together!

Derrick

Don't forget to get yourself a decent external monitor so you can hit your focus accurately..unless you plan to do a lot of measureing.

The lenses I got off of Craigslist here in the Bay Area:

Canon FD 135mm f2.5
Panagor (Canon) 90mm f2.8
Canon FD 28mm f2.8
Tokina (Canon) 35-200mm f4-5.6
Nikon 50mm f1.8

Paid $200 for all 5 lenses.

Although I think if I had to do it all over again I would have tried to go all Nikon because:

1. You can get the Nikon "locking" mount for the Letus Extreme.

2. The 28mm f2.8 is one of those where you have to put a piece of wood or plastic in to adjust the aperture.

3. I've read in these forums that Nikons are superior to Canon in regards to using them with 35mm adapters.
