Film Festival Semifinalist

In April my two daughters donated their hair to an organization called Locks of Love. I grabbed my camera and filmed what I could. No time to plan anything, just kind of a rush-rush thing. I edited it, added some background music and some voice over, sort of a family memory sort of thing. Later my wife sent it to a Christian Film Festival in San Antonio and guess what...I made the Semi Finals! It's in the short documentary catagory.

They're going to screen it a couple times October 25-27. My little girls are pretty excited so I decided to load up the whole family and attend the festival later this month. I even got "gratis use" rights for the music from Sarah McLachlan and Fox Music. Anyway here's a link...let me know what you think:

Nice little piece of work my friend. Very moving, saw some tears coming down my wife's eyes.

COngrats on the selection! that is an achievement to remember.

How did you do to contact S. McLachlan and fox music? I have my eyes on a song and need some advice on how to get it for free or less than what they would charge me to use it.(for film festival)

I think you have a great story here to try to turn it into a feature or short film form, really , this is very moving and you can strech this story to a longer version. I think is going to be a winner.

good luck

Cool stuff! We're in as well! www.SmugglersRansom.com

Check it out if you can!

Abelex - Thanks man! Regarding the Sarah McLachlan song, I actually called her management agancy in LA and left a message, then got a call back from an assitant the same day. They were very gracious and steered me to a short little form requesting a gratis (free) usage for the film festival. They approved it in about 24 hours. I believe I got the gratis use because it's a film festival and not a commercial venture. I thought I was good but later found out that her publishing company owns only 40% of the song, the remainder is owned by Fox Music. Same routine there and got a formal contract to sign from Fox granting me gratis use for their portion too. Send me a PM and I'll email you the form that I used. Pretty simple all in all.

TheComo - That's our littlest Spencer. Way to grown up for his 5 year old body, which is why he keeps us in stiches most of the time!

Brandon - Very Cool! Can't wait to see the whole thing. Hey, will you guys be in San Antonio? We'll be there just for the festival portion, not the academy. Make sure you introduce yourself if you're there...I'll be the one with a boat load of kids!

Sadly, I won't be out there :( I am CRAZY busy working on a children's history TV show right now, and there's no way for me to get out there. My co-director Daniel will be there though, so say howdy to him if you can. Hope your film does well there!! and gets great response!:thumbsup:

Thanks everyone for all the kind words! We leave Wednesday for San Antonio. My first time at any festival...I'll let you know how everything goes. Thanks again, it's very encouraging.

Man.. that's some awesome moving stuff. The wife is gonna love that and congrats on the festival appearance. Definitely soak it up as the thrill of watching something in front of a festival crowd is unbelievable and should stay with you and the kids for a while. I know that a few years back my dad got to attend the New Haven Festival instead of me and he said that the ovation that he got and the after party meet and greet was so cool that it kept him up and couldn't sleep. Was great to give that to him as the same thing that you'll be giving to your kids...

That's a cool org.. my next door neighbor donated his Scottish pigtail and I started growing out mine too but hard to keep it here in Florida...

Sarah is also one of the coolest people in the biz as I got to meet her years ago and just salt of the earth...

Wish you the best with this and thanks for sharring.. don't usually see emotional and powerful stuff like that on here.. CHEERS!

Justyn thanks for the kind words. I'll be taking the camera and hopefully will have a chance to use it. We leave tomorrow morning and the kids are completely excited!

And Brandon, I'll keep my eye open for Daniel...maybe get a chance to say hi at the screening of your film.

Very nice deed and video.

And here come the new Sophie Marceau and the new Sharon Stone :).

Good luck.
