Andromeda Short Film Test Clip

a little something extra, but you'll have to download it to find out.

What are you up to this time Chris?

Are you difference keying this shot to apply a post background blur? On close frame by frame inspection, I can see some of the background text on the DVD cover go from out of focus, to in focus and back to out of focus, as your hand passes and places the deck down on it's side. Unusual.

Chris is definitely an Andromeda Pioneer. Stuff gets better and better.

Good lookin test! Super clean, reinstills faith in Hydra.

I do have to ask what our compression settings are, though. O_o;

I guess the leap from DVX100 to an Andromeda-DVX is quite impressive, given that the DVX is initially a MiniDV camera.

Nevertheless, the Hydra prospect surely ignites one's imagination.

Thats a bit of a misconception in my opinion. Only the VTR section of the camera is MiniDV.

You could easily hook up a MiniDV deck to a DVCPRO 50 cameras SD output and have yourself a "MiniDV" camera. Andromeda is all about the glass, sensors, and ADC's.

You caught me! Yes, this is post DOF... I'm still waiting on various adapters to arrive for testing, but I won't be able to use them for my next short film it seems, so I'm looking into post DOF. So far, it seems that if you can do it well, you end up with the best of both worlds, the 35mm DOF look, but the sharpness you crave.

It's a bit time consuming, but I figure I'd only need to do this on the more telephoto shots anyways. Just watch any 35mm film out there, not every background is a total blur you know.

What was your technique? I looked closely and it looked quite "non-post".

There's only a few frames where you can "catch" me. It's all rotoscoping. I'm looking for a more efficient way to doing this.

What I meant was that without the Andromeda, DVX100 is a DV camera and the Andromeda mod turns it into something completely different which offers stunning results.

If only they could post some footage from a Hydra-ted HVX. :2vrolijk_08:

I can bet its gonna be really good, but only footage shot by a user who really understands the system will tell for sure. I know a guy locally who is buying the Hydra mod, so I can't wait for that to arrive in town :)
