Cinematography Showreel 2007

The strongest advice for any reel is to use ONLY your best shots. Don't throw in a bunch of mediocre footage to fill out the running time.
 
Its really hard to tell a good reel from a bad one on youtube. would you be able to use quicktime and h264 and make it at least 480by360?
 
Some shots were really good, and some just didn't fit in.. Seems like the Documentary type stuff didn't fit..
 
I agree with Justin Marx... and by the way, I can see the dolly in that slow dolly shot with the man sitting at the end of the hallway... I'd see if I could crop that out. Other than that you have some shots that look amateur and some that look very professional. I would cut out all the amateur looking stuff and keep your nice stuff.

I would have been much more impressed with you had I not seen those weaker shots.

Edit: For instance your second shot looks much more professional then your first. I know the first shot is a very interesting one compositionally and regarding movement, but it looks overexposed and shot on amateur camera, while the second shot looks much more intentional and professional. The first just looks like an amateur who happened to discover a nice shot while walking about.

And by the way, most of that stuff is looking pretty good, so don't think I am raggin' on ya.

ps work on those skin tones... unless that is the look of the films you make, the majority of subjects have odd skin tones.

man lose the music. having all the random shots in there made the reel feel like 7 mins rather than 2 mins. i agree with the guy who said only use your best shots. seems like you're just trying to fill up the reel with all your work.

Thanks for the advise. That kind of criticism is the best! I will defiantly loose the crapier shots, they were filmed on one of those small sony handy cams, didn't want to bring my HVX to india. Once I have a bit more to show ill post up another one and ill be more strict with myself what ill put on!
