i dont know if this is apples to apples - but i use a 3 or 4 year old mac g4 1.0 ghz powerbook for field injest of p2 content and it does more than fine on cuts and dissolve edits in Final cut pro with the footage.
where you pay DEARLY for NOT buying a new 3.2ghz machine is in render and export time - THATS where thats going to come into play BIG TIME!
I use a Powerbook to edit at home but find Macs way too fragile for field use in 3rd world countries. I am trying to find a PC laptop that will work for copying footage onto a external HD and at the same time be able to log footage.
yeah, generally 720pn and the powerbook doesnt miss a beat!
dont know what you mean by fragile. my powerbook has traveled the world in the last 4 years and the only thing thats happened is the headphone out no longer works - and thats a very recent development.
