Ok, its been while since I last posted some footage. First off, let me tell you a little about this shot. I took my Andromeda rig out to a TV shoot to show it off to the crew, as some had been asking me about it for a while. I literally just set the camera down on the ground and hit record to show them how the system worked, I was stopped down pretty far, and I hadn't bothered to focus or anything. Heck, I even could have exposed higher up. Anyhow, I rendered it out at home to look at, and I decided to see how far I could push an otherwise "so so" type shot. For those wondering, I actually shot this threw a magenta filter too (after white balancing of course).

WOW!

Check this out, it shows just how far into the shadows the camera can reach:

So what can you do with a shot like that in post?

......Thats what...........

wow. . . just wow. do you think the hvx would be capable of this without the andromeda?

No way on earth could you ever hope to get that kind of performance out of a stock HVX.

Never.

Hydra will be cool to look at, though in theory, it will probably have the same latitude performance as the DVX100 Andromeda, at least thats my theory.

that's really awesome. Next time you do a test shot like that, would you mind taking some stills of the rig in action? I've done moderate reading on your magenta filter technique and Andromeda, but it is immensely satisfying to see pictures of the magic maker in action (the pictures of its results are amazing)

They are just quick on set snap shots, nothing fancy. I left them high res because I know some people like to zoom in on the shots.

They are behind the scenes shots of his setup. Taken with a still camera. There is nothing to critique. Unless I'm missing something. Critique the footage from the Andromedyzed DVX.

Jason

god, just watched the clips again.... man that latitude is beautiful.... damn. I've always found the andromeda to be slightly noisy, but that latitude really is something ain't it?

sounds like you're struggling to understand what the andromeda is all about - if you already have a dvx this is a way of making it a camera with much better latitude, light sensitivity & possibly resolution than either the hvx or a1

I love the concept of the andromeda, but methinks the notion of carrying around a computer all the time and having the camera tethered to it in order to record is a bit too impractical for me...

card maverick: your camera looks so not ghetto. :P ...............great footage nonetheless. I see your magenta filter trick really does work like a charm!
