Distance of HVX from subject?

I am new to all of this and am going to do a simple interview where a subject is sitting and being interviewed by someone off camera. I setup a simple test shoot and placed the HVX at different distances and changed the zoom and the shots seemed to work.

I am not sure what I might missing.
Are there any guidelines for how far the camera should be from the subject for a shoot like this? I will be using a lighting kit and either a wired lav or a boom for the subject.

Thanks.

Many try to achieve an out of focus background around interview subjects. How much out of focus is your call. If you are not using a 35mm adaptor, then you want to get the camera as far back as you can and zoom in to decrease the depth of field. Lighting less to have a wider aperture (lower f-stop) will also decrease DOF. You also need to have the background some distance behind the subject. It something you have to play with.
