So Aram, have you found a new use for any slower wide angle lenses you had kicking around? You'll get another surprise if you throw a slow 300mm on there too. These are the first grabs ever posted from CF1Le :)

Shots look great, but why do they all have a golden overtone to them? Was it intentional?

Still, they look great.

Very nice grabs...I see that new GG is really a plus. Question...Did you change lenses between the two girls putting on makeup? It looks like you used a 50 and a 85mm because of the Bokeh in the background is different and the framing is much closer on the second girl. This is a good example of lens choice. If you did use differents lenses, I prefer the more closer lens on the second girl with the brush..It makes her more intimate to the viewer vs the girl with the mascara, which makes her seem standoffish to the viewer. Your thoughts?

Pap, thanks for your feedback on our little flash demo :)

CF1Le represents a very expensive "disaster" that turned into a bit of a breakthrough here. Some of our users with the larger cams (ie HVX, HD100 etc) were not getting the performance I would have liked (full frame, zero vignette) with slower wide angle primes like an f3.5 24mm, or an f4.5 17 to 28mm zoom. For most adapters, these lenses would be not usable with full frame field of view. CF1Le makes them usable, while retaining full frame performance up into the 500mm range. It's been tested here, and is now in the field for more feedback. If all goes well, it will replace CF1L.

The goal is to give the indie film-maker an affordable anamorphic wide screen substitute using 20 and 24mm lenses that don't cost an arm and a leg.

Dennis, is there a difference in light loss between CF1L and CF1Le? If so, I hope that you might continue offering both diffusers.... unless of course, the 1e is brighter :)

Jason

That's some pretty intense widescreen there Aram, 2.90:1! :). I like the lines and texture in your shots. Re focus, some sharp, some not so. The grab with the girl and the teacher at the desk - do you know what's happening at the edges of the frame?

I like your lighting too. Can I ask your lighting setup?

Dennis, I quite like the bokeh on these grabs - aside from the extra love for wide lenses, any other changes to this cf1?

Hey Dennis, I like the new glass. Zero vignetting! I haven't tried the slower zooms because I lost the Canon mount.

The focus on that wide of the principal and girl was hard to get right. Not sure what was happening but I was also using a small monitor and it seemed ok. I might have not screwed the lenses in all the way since I was jumping back and forth to static and glidecam. Some of the shots are dolly shots and I had to pull focus along with the 1st AC and it is hard as hell without a follow focus.

The lighting in the school I brought out five 1ks, a 1K softbox, my magic soft cube thingy I love to use for color, three 650w, four 300w and two 150w.
We used a lot of reflectors in the hallway in the school because the sun was beaming in from the side so we throw up a few 1ks for high lights and eye lights and bounced the sun for fill and flagged what we could to bring down areas. I also had a shower curtain to help scrim the sun in places.

I only used a 50mm and a 28mm and tried to make the best of them. :p I think I should have used the 50mm for all 3 girls.

The cropping was by eye just for the screenies. The director wanted it widescreen and we framed for that and it will be transferred to 16mm.

My server is slowing down with all the links so I try to keep the images small for now.
