Addonics Cardbus to expresscard

Ok, so Addonics promptly emailed me back saying that Fedex was the only way, however, there is a reseller in Oz.

The downside is, as usual we pay a F##Kload more for everything here. The $69 card in the US relates to $78.5 with todays exchange rate. Why is the products retail at the resellers then $125??!! As you can see I've had enough of jacked up prices here, just thought I'd get that off my chest and on that note, I'll probably have to bite the bullet and get it.

The price differences are a result of the difference in value between the Australia dollar and the US dollar.

Not much can be done about that.

Plus shipping and import duties. You're going to pay for those expenses one way or the other, either direct from the manufacturer, or all rolled into the price from a local distributor (who had to eat the shipping and import duty costs).

No Dave I said in the post the 69 bucks US is equal to $78 Aussie dollars (our dollar has risen quiet a lot over the last year or so).

I know the reseller has to make money but it just seems like an overblown hike up.

Has anyone got this item yet?

But, like Barry said in the above post - The seller in Oz, had to pay for shipping and import taxes, etc, etc. So, that cost will get passed along to you one way or another... Either from the markup of a local seller who had to pay those costs, or in shipping to get it over to you all the way from the states.

Right -- even if there was no difference in the exchange rate, it's still obviously going to cost more in Australia. There are shipping costs and import duties that have to be paid, and that gets tacked onto the price.

Just ordered one. Will let you know how it goes in a couple days (XP Pro).

EDIT: Just got a confirmatory email back for my order saying it'll take a couple weeks (back order).

Unfortunately I have a Sony with Vista. It worked once after 100 tries (it felt like 100) then I rebooted and I was back to square 1. :(

One issue I see, however, is that if the Addonics is plugged in, and you try to insert a p2 card, the EC comes out. Kinda of annoying.

Does your Addonics work without card specific drivers on a PC laptop?

I also am unable to get this to work in OS X on a MacBook Pro.

The short manual indicates that the card is platform agnostic, and all that is necessary is to load the drivers for the device, which is the p2 card, for us.

Did that, and it just doesn't mount.

I´m, really longing for a solution to the "Mac express slot problem for P2 users", please keep us posted on the progress!
I will write to the addonics support asking for a working P2/Mac integration, maybe some peer pressure will help...

My guess is that all this might change when Apple releases Leopard.

That's more than an educated guess, but it isn't a certainty.

It would seem to me that this says it all.

<*does not support 16-bit PCMCIA card such as ATA Flash, 4-in-1 DigiAdapter or CF DigiAdapter. Under Mac OS X, Panasonic P2 cards are currently not supported with this adapter.> From their web page of this product,

The information on the Addonics web site says "MacOS" but not MacOS X. Starnge that the Express 34 card computer are ALL MacOS X?

Yay! :)

Is it sturdy?

Mike please let us know how it holds up.

Hi JupiterLeo,

It seems just fine. Goes in as a nice fit, and the system sees the P2 as a card drive as it should.

Works great.

I don't have a Mac to test it on, so I have no clue whether it would work. The Duel didn't.

You do have to follow the installation instructions at the Addonics site to the 't'. But that's no biggie.
