I just recently shot some footage in 60i then when im editing it in FCP im using a 29.97 fps timeline and i look at the fottage settings and it says that the clips are 29.97. when i start to edit with it in the time line it looks interlaced to me for some reason. like im not getting a clear picture. can anyone tell me why that is. thanxk alot

EDIT:

here is the pic of the problem..any ideas!

60i and 29.97 are often used to refer to the same thing. 60i is really 59.94 fields per second, or 29.97 interlaced frames. If you shot 60i, you shot interlaced... which is why it looks interlaced in still frames.

Some software (FCP, at least) has an option to display only one field, or to blend 'em, so it looks nicer during editing. Played back on a 60i playback device you won't see the interlacing. De-interlacing might look better in the stills, but will lower perceived resolution when properly played back. DON'T deinterlace the video if you're final product (eg, DVD) will be interlaced...

can anyone tell me what they shoot action sports with.. i used to have a vx2100 and it worked fine when i brought it into my timeline. then shooting not even 24p or 30p. i cant figure it can anyone help.

for sports you will want to shoot 60i and at a very high shutter speed. This will cut down on motion blur. this will also enable you to do some nice slo motion if desired.

60i is 29.97, which is two half frames in one. upper field and lower. make sure your field order set correctly. I think lower is proper field dominence for DV. but look that up to be sure.

your DVX in 60i is the same thing as your vx2100. I used to shoot with the vx2000 and 2100.

try shooting some sport footage in 30p at higher shutter speeds. of course, test it out when it's not important how it turns out.

try different shutter speeds. I shot some tennis footage for a kid applying to college in 30p at 1/60th and 1/120th and really liked it.
