rumors of a shooting - what to do

Well, we're not used to it as much as you guys are, so we haven't become as numb to it as folks in L.A.

Then again, with a murder rate 3 times what ours is, I guess the whole of America has become somewhat desensitized to some of this stuff.

Just another way Vancouver has become L.A. north, I guess...

Desensitized? naaah! We just shoot back here!!!!

Seriously, I was born in Toronto, and there's as much crime there as any big city. Problem is, only the criminals own handguns in Canada, as hardly anyone can legally own one.

I sure as hell don't want to turn this thread into a firearms debate, but I can tell you I feel safe in my house.

The reality in LA is that your far more likely to die by car accident than you ever would in some sort of gangland shooting. Thankfully the gangs keep the shootings mostly to themselves.

Mostly.

Well, Canada has fewer people than California. Of course you're gonna miss out on some things.

We're about the same population, I think...somewhere around 35 million. If you sent back all the Canadians working in Hollywood, we might actually have the slight edge.

We do miss out on some of the stuff California has, like the year round sunshine, beach culture, and earthquakes.

As for the comment about feeling safe in your home, that's a start. I like to feel safe on the streets, in most other neighbourhoods...walking around at night.

You know...crazy stuff like that.

You can feel safe at night in most of the neighborhoods. Except the ones you can't feel safe in.

There is a reason 35 million people live in this state. And before you get too lugubrious about it, the death rate is still one per person.

Just go to the police. I am pretty sure they have a tip hotline. Just tell them you have some information on a potential retaliation and you want to make them aware of it. You may even be able to do it anonymously. Let them decide how they want to treat it. No sense leaving it on your conscience.

...because of a rather porous border with Mexico?

And before you get too lugubrious about it, the death rate is still one per person.
It's a little hebetudinous of you to think I am getting lugubrious about it...why would I, since I don't live there? As for death rates being one per person, I think O.J. has caused more than that. Somebody should sue....

....oh, wait, you were being cute. How jejune.

Man you guys got it rough if your used to "club" shootings. It makes me feel good about where I live. Stuff happens here but only now and then, nothing like what you guys are talking about. Don't get involved, you've got nothing to prove just go to the cops they've got bullet proof vests(:

I was standing right behind a guy that got shot it the mouth. Really glad he didn't duck.

Seriously?

I was coming home from work last week on Broadway and passed Van Tech, noticed there was a bunch of cop cars and ambulance that was blocking off the road, the next day I read that a guy had been shot next to school in his SUV, apparently retaliation from some of those shootings in the summer?

Oh, he made it. He was pretty messed up for a while, but he made it. Hit his front teeth, knocked them all out along one side before lodging in his spine. He could have been much worse off.

That is messed up.

I don't understand how people can think that stabbing/shooting someone will solve their problems. it's such a barbaric and ignorant way of solving a problem.

and it doesn't solve anything either. it just makes more problems. they should just stop making handguns all together. what the hell is the point of those things anyway. it's not like they are good for protection.

not impressed

Desica, you missed it, man. The death rate is still one per person. That means each person will die once.

I was trying to be funny. I'll turn on subtitles next time.....

sheesh...

Yes, you were trying to be funny...I got it the first time. Everybody gets it.

Dude, if you read my post all the way through, you'll see I was being sarcastic.

I pointed out that you were being 'cute,' and remarked on it. Nevermind subtitles...get an adult to read the posts to you.

Feel free to replace jejune with obtuse if you like.

Awwww...if only you hadn't made the crack about subtitles which brought about my response, I'd actually feel bad.
