Hi,

Is it wise to buy a used dvx100. I ask because I found a lot of used dvx100, but most have 400+ hours on their head, is it a smart choice to buy a camera with so much hours on the head, or should i buy new.

So in your opinion is it wise to buy a used dvx100 or should I just get a new one. What made you guys get a new one, instead of used?

Thanks

When you say DVX100, do you mean the actual DVX100, or is this including the 100A and 100B?

I think there are plenty you can find that have more like 100 hours on the heads. I wouldn't buy one with 400 hours unless I was confident that it was perfectly maintained and functional, and it was extremely cheap.

Anyone of the dvx100s. Although I have heard that it is better to stay away from the 1st generation dvx100, so I will not be buying that model.

However, I have the oppurtunity to buy a dvx100a with 400 on head for around 1400.

Or a used DVX100b with around 200 for 2000.00

There is always the new option, which goes for 2500.00 for a dvx100b. But will I be making a mistake paying 2500.00 for a sd camera???

In your guys opinion, which one is the better option

Thanks

If that $1400 100A was treated well, I would jump on it.

Yeah, William is right. I just got finished researching prices on the 100A and that sounds about right.

I have a 100A with a blank lcd and I was trying to find out how much it would cost to get it fixed. It will only cost me around $400.00. I then stated researching low hour DVX100A and they were going for around $2000.00.

So, I have 2 choices. Get it fixed and don't sell it, or sell it as is for around $1400.00.

I think I'm going to get it fixed and keep it. I also own a 100b so it would be cool to still have the 2 camera option.

you would probably be receiving more helpful responses had you used more question marks in your topic title

I agree with $1400 for the 100A, but would rather pay $2500 for the new 100B than $2000 used.

Don't buy a DVX now, get an HVX.

Don't get me wrong, I love my dvx100a and I've had it since it was introduced but I feel with digital you definitely need to be shooting with a high definition camera now.

Don't buy a used DVX with over 100 hours. Also make sure the person used only Panasonic MQ or AMQ tapes.

In general, if you can wait I would not buy a DVX at all. Get an HV20 and a Brevis/Letus, learn the craft and tune your PC setup with HD editing until the Sony EX comes out. Then Panasonic will drop the price on the HVX and other offerings will emerge at lower prices.

Those are good prices for both the A and B - It really depends on how well the camera was taken care off.

Financially HD isn't an option for some people right now. If that's the case, ask the seller of both the a and b a lot of questions. Find out how well the camera has been cared for.

If you're buying from Ebay, pay with pay pal. - Watch out for "Companies" on that site because they will try to upsell the hell out of you.

Personally, I would spend a little more money and go with the B, but that's just me.

Are you planning on going to HD one day soon?(Next year or 2) or are you going to stick with the DVX for a long time. These are questions that are relevant in regards to buying new or used.

If you plan on upgrading within a year anyway, it makes more sense to buy used and save money.

If you're planning on keeping it for 5 years, you may want to consider a new.

Keep in mind a lot of people are buying these for only a year or so and then upgrading, so there's a lot of good used ones out there.

And lastly as always, if the price is too good to be true, then that's probably accurate. Most USED 100DVXB's go for between 2100 and 2500 bucks. (Not a lot cheaper than the new ones) but many of these used ones are being sold with a lot of accessories too(Batteries, tripods, carrying cases etc) Which spice up the deal.

The big thing is to determine how well a used has been taken care of. Ask the seller a lot of questions.

I hope some of this helped.

Thanks bigox for the detailed view. Your right, I've been finding alot cheap dvx100b's some going for 1200-1500. I stay away if the sellers a little fishy.

How can I know that it has been well taken care of. I ask all the sellers the same questions and I get the same reply. That it's 100% working conditions, etc etc.

What are the things that I should be looking out for?

Thanks guys

Well you want to determine if the seller actually ever used the camera or not. A lot of places just "obtained" a used camera and they really know nothing about it. You're safest best is to go with someone who hasn't used it long and the reason they want to sell it is that they are upgrading to an HD.

Just ask them flat out how well they've taken care of it. What they've used it for. Have they done any work to it? Is it still under warranty(some of them are) - Stuff like that - An honest seller will tell you all the pros and cons. And find out why they are selling it.

That kind of thing. Usually just in communication with a seller you can get an idea as to how well it's been taken care of.

Some of the "companies" will try to sell them at a low cost and then try to upsell you on warranties, batteries, etc etc at very high prices. There are some that if you say no to the upsells they won't sell you the camera! No kidding!

If you are going new, check out the licensed panasonic dealers. - If you are going used, I'd say go with an individual who is selling it rather than a non licensed company. Those companies are the ones you really have to look out for. Lots and lots of shady electronic dealers out there.
