Record uncompressed 14-bit (4:4:4) on your HVX200

This would have to

1. Be available for the PC
2. Record audio, unlike the Andromeda which does not

in order for me to even consider take the plunge

It does record Audio. Record your audio to DVtape, or DVCpro25 for an IT workflow.

Of course it only works in 24p modes.... but the audio the camera records is useable, just slate to sync sound. its been done for 100 years... and well it seems for a few more too...

ifi got one Client that wanted HYDRA i would Jump....

If you had taken ANY time to read ANY of he the information in this thread you would know that BOTH of those requirements are supposedly going to be met AFTER it comes out for the Mac.

Juan keep doing wht you do, I dont care if its spring before Hydra is released, as long as it doesnt turn into VaporWare...

thanks for even THINKING about making this sort of thing available to us. I for one ama a Hydra BUYER if/when it delivers on its potential

theres no reason for it to become vapour ware. Unlike the cineporter, theres no "solution on the horizon" for this. it will just be there.... eventually.

Kinda makes me want to sell one of my HVX's and Hydra-dyze the other :) But, I'll keep 'em both and get Hydra on at least one :)

i would get it, but like, i dont know of any clients that would want it..... they'd rather just shoot on 16mm or F900 instead.

it seems to be more for people who make work for themsleves.

I dunno, have you pitched anyone on this? I don't believe that given the option to shoot in 2k or 16mm that people would choose 16mm for cost reasons alone......never mind that you can watch footage immediately, setup time is less, meaning more shots etcetera..

I would really only get it for my own personal use... For working on films and doc's and such... But, at least it would be available for a client if the need arose... at a hefty premium... But where I am at, I dont' see that need arising... at least not locally.

Later,
Jason

This would be the best tool to orginate on, especially if a distributor picks your production up

its also useful in any other production considering the latitude it offers. cleaner, noisefree images.

The Hydra does not exist. And Andromeda is so riddled with problems and issues, so I find it hard to be so optimistic. Check the Andromeda boards full of frustrated DVX users and you'll see what I mean. ("wish I had just bought an HVX".....etc"

I own an Andromeda... and I SERIOUSLY beg to differ... Just check this out:

All I did in post was tweak the colors and add additional space on the sides for a more wide screen look. ZERO post noise reduction used on this.

Uncompressed HD Animation (178MB)

Web HD Clip (16MB):

I highly recommend looking at the animation to see this clips full glory, and man is it beautiful, almost brings a tear to my eye

All shot using my own custom record and render LUTs.

This past summer I shot THREE regional commercials for Court TV shows, a debut music video that will actually broadcast on TV (MTV 2, Fuse, ect...) and I'm currently shooting a pilot for PBS with the system. The only clients I have been using the camera for are my "higher end" clients. That says a lot.

Thats what the F* Im Talking About!!!!
Ive seen some of your Andromeda stuff before and its always impressive.

Thanks for posting, maybe it will quiet some of the nay-sayers down some... ( i doubt it )

Setup time is less? I dunno man, I plunk down a set of sticks and an SR3 pretty quick. Think you can set up a camera and a computer to record with in less time? Sure, maybe it'll take a bit to get a light reading, but that doesn't take much.

The beauty of the system is that the user can create a shoulder mount camera if they want, its been done before, and I'm slowly moving in that direction. Furthermore, you can design it the way you like:

3D Andromeda, shoulder mountable, with Anton Bauer battery system and easy to swap hard drives:

2D Andromeda, studio style rig:

This is my personal portable "video village" setup (battery not shown). Eventually I'll be shoulder mount, and yes, thats a touchscreen (most users go the mac mini touchscreen route):

C'mon really? I know for sure I can shoot faster with andromeda system versus a film setup. By the time you load those first two mags with stock, attach lenses, and add that to your setup time, I've been shooting andromeda/hydra for awhile. Never mind carting all of those cases into the shoot to begin with. You can roll with one camera bag and a laptop bag for andromeda. One trip. No way that's possible with a film setup. Plus, I haven't got to wait for the sound and/or boom guy, roll and slate audio, switch mags, or like you said, get a light reading. I've shot plenty of film, and it doesn't even come close to setup time on a camera and computer.

I have to be fair here... Andromeda is a sync sound system. Slates are extremely important. As for attaching lenses and mags, well, you still do the same things potentially with Andromeda or Hydra if you shoot using an adapter, and drives don't last forever (though they do run much longer). As for light reading, thats important no matter what your format happens to be. My perspective, being an actual user of the Andromeda system, and having observed countless 16mm and a few 35mm shoots, they can both be just as quick or just as long.

Hello everyone,
We're not only working on Hydra but on a new (firmware) update to Andromeda which supports PAL and 12-bit linear uncompressed modes without requiring LUTs to 10-bit or 8-bit.

Yay for PAL users and double yay for 12-bit!
