FS100 and loud music

Has anybody had success or failure using the Firestore FS100 to record very loud music up close, like rock? I'm trying to pinpoint a major dropout problem I am having during recording, and the one constant among the 4-5 times it's failed me is the loudness of the setting. I'm thinking that the extreme vibration of the heavily amplified music is causing the disk drive (or could it be the HVX?) to skip. The FS guy says that he's never heard of this happening, but I'm beginning to have my doubts. What's your experience with recording very loud music, if any? And if you do find it to be a problem, is there any thing you recommend, short of telling the musicians to turn down the volume, to lessen the chances of skipping?

AFAIK, the FS has nothing to do with input. you may be killing your camera with overdiven audio input which may confuse the FS - dunno? i shot 4 LOUD bands in the last week and other than splatting the onboard mic, the FS didnt miss a beat...?

I am referring to the vibrations of the music shaking the hard drive, possibly making it skip.

No shockmount, but I had a whole outdoors handheld shoot yesterday, running with the camera and the FS100 attached with nothing more than velcro, and no problems. (No loud music was involved.)

You don't have any P2 cards you can record to as a comparison?

I can see how the sound pressure induced vibration could cause problems for a hard drive or DV cable connection. Marc Singer used an HVX with P2 cards near door breaches with the Marines without problems.

Shockmounting is also useful for heavy vibration, in scenarios such as what you describe. If the FS100 is on a rigid surface, or on a tripod rigidly linked to the floor, etc, vibration from the music is more likely to cause problems than if the FS is shock-isolated somehow. Sound isolating a bit can also work... even wrapping it in clothing and putting it in a shoebox (with a hole for the cable) can be very effective if this is really tour issue...

i had a scenario where i was riding in a racecar(scrunched up beside the driver) and had the firestore in my lap sorta and it wouldnt record a bit from the vibrations and/or noise levels. i've heard of people in my company overheating and melting their firestores so maybe putting it in a shoebox wrapped up without much ventelation would not be such a good idea. but those are news photogs, who are generally pretty rough with equipment.

I'll try the shockmount, then. I assume there's something out there like this to purchase someplace. Is the Geardear cage shockmounted? I need my FS100 on top of the camera, not below, for handheld work.

(I've no P2 cards for comparison.)
