IN EXTREMIS by JOHNSON and HYTEN

We're shooting a pretty damn cool music video in Hollywood this Saturday night. The concept is sort of a Tim Burtonesque wedding. Any Los Angeles-based DVXUSERs interested in helping out please let us know. The video will definitely get airplay on MTV2 and, hopefully, elsewhere .

By the way, here's our current working logo. For now, it's based on a bizarre ceramic figure Tim found at a flea market. We'll eventually re-do it but we thought it would set the proper tone for now :)

I like it man. I could see a little intro logo with some nice little stop motion or something... Don't mind me :)

I like it though.

Actually, we are doing a little animation that has the cigar smoke drifting up and then he clicks the remote at the camera and the image goes to snow. Its pretty cool.

Small World

This afternoon we made a run by Wooden Nickel to pick up our lighting/grip rental and we ran into John Hermann and some of his crew. They were getting some extras for a shoot they're doing in Santa Clarita that sounded pretty upscale (they had a damn Panavision in the car if that's any indication of the budget).

By the way, John co-produced and acted in a short horror flick that is in competition on the new Chiller channel. As a fellow DVXUSER (and a great guy all round) I urge all of you to visit the site and watch his film as well as vote on it: http://chillertv.com/Dare_To_Direct/Video_Gallery/31575.shtml

Anyway, here's a pic I snapped at the rental house with my iPhone. This is Taylor Wigton, Joey and John Hermann:

Saturday morning

Snapped this pic of the dazed Scott Bullis and Scott Enberg on our living room floor this a.m.

Both Scotts flew down yesterday from San Francisco to crew our music video shoot this weekend. Bullis cooked one of his famous meals last night at midnight and we all sat down and watched a copy of Battle Royale that Enberg brought with him.

Looks like the shoot is going to have a nice cadre of DVXUSERs in attendance. Matty G is coming in town and it looks like Kholi is going to be fresh off a plane from Georgia but will be coming by tonight. Blaine has a meeting in L.A. and plans to stop in afterwards and the ever essential TommyInLA (Tom Marshall) is going to be acting in the concept part of the video.

I am reminded all over again how much I love being able to shoot in L.A. because there are so many people willing to help out in exchange for returned favors on their own projects as well as having a huge talent pool that is willing to work for next to nothing simply out of love of the craft and a desire to get ahead in the biz.

Although this is a low budget project we have assembled a really good and hard working cast/crew of forty-plus persons. The band has been great to work with and they've lined up rotation for the video in both Japan and Mexico where they are huge. Obviously, we're all hoping they break over here so they can hire us for a bigger video on their next single.

We're shooting at a really cool loft with a lot of space to work in:

Turns out that Omega Cinema Props is only 3 blocks away so we got some great stuff to dress the place with. It's a night shoot so we will be blasting a bunch of lights from the roof through the windows that hopefully will set up some nifty shadow/backlighting effects. We'll post some BTS tomorrow if all goes well.

Oh, by the way, we're shooting with a Brevis 35 HD bundle that Dennis of Cinevate was kind enough to FedEx to us. I can't say enough about how accomodating Cinevate has been.

Ciao!

Mark and Tim

I'm really looking forward to your movie. You fellows do quality stuff...i'm sure its gonna be awesome.

It was a great time last night (music video)...practically a DVXUser meeting. Several of the folks from the desert showed up, too. Looks like Mark and Tim were getting some good images.

Mark, we'll be looking forward to some footage and your feedback on the Brevis :-) Here's to Fedex and Saturday delivery

I finally met more DVXusers. LoL.

I saw my first Brevis in action last night. Retains a lot of light!

Nice meeting you guys, finally.

Last Night's Shoot

Last Night's Shoot

Everybody is still sleeping (didn't get home until 8:30 this morning) but I'm up enjoying a beer here at Fat Monster Films nerve center. Last night was a great time especially because of the generosity of so many DVXUSERs who contributed their time and gear. Matty, Luis and Brian stayed the whole night and both Blaine and Kholi jammed with us until the wee hours as well.

Tommy was rad as a priest ... disturbingly so. Here's a couple frames uncorrected:

We had 45 to 50 people on set (Tim will have to give me the true count) and it was a brutal night for those unused to the strict regimen of power napping and ceral malt beverage fortification that I adhere to:
