A way to make people stop watching TV altogether

Hah! I'm afraid it's the way of the future. And one thing is right - the internet is responsible... this is how we look at webpages - all very busy info-wise.

Anyhow, I do think TV and the internet will converge one day, or more accurately, TV will be absorbed by the internet - already many people watch TV on the computer. Personally, I almost never watch TV these days. I have a 30" monitor hooked up to my computer, and I watch movies on it... the TV sits gathering dust. I really don't care what the TV networks are doing :)

So to attract internet users the networks are adding "features" that mimic the post irritating aspects of the web? What's next, that crazy Britney guy coming on and shouting at as to watch CSI?

Maybe I should go back in time and kill whoever invented the genlock.

yeah, yet another reason I watch everything on DVD. When travelling I see TV in hotel rooms and I am pretty annoyed at all of the **** that pops up and makes noise at the bottom of the screen.

TNT is pretty bad at this. When they were running "The Company" those adds really did eat up the whole lower third for 10 seconds or so. It's ridiculous.

They have the temerity to say that they don't want to interrupt the viewer's experience, but what good is an ad if it goes unnoticed? And if it gets noticed, what is it doing?

I can't stand those pop-up ads. Between that and the 10 minute long commercial sessions, I'm really getting to the point where I'd rather just wait for a show to come out on DVD than watch it live.

Between stuff like this, and the morons who want to make it illegal to fast forward through commercials, I really think people will start moving away from live TV.

I'm watching the Situation Room right now and it's asinine. 6 panels/monitors to cover a Wolf Blitzer interview with Nancy Pelosi. 3 different angles of the same interview all running simultaneously. Plus the crawl at the bottom & a lower 3rd with some jumpback thingy. My eyes are bugging out! The SNL sketch was dead on.

I agree. I haven't owned a TV in 4 or 5 years. I watch DVDs on my computer. And I'm making an effort to buy more indie DVDs.

My philosophy is that if you're watching someone else's programs you're not creating your own (whatever you like--fill in the blank)... It may be cliche but no one will say at the end of their life "Boy I wish I'd watched more TV!"

That's precisely why I am cancelling my cable TV subscription. TV has become pretty much unwatchable. For good shows, I can always get the series on DVD. The rest is garbage. The only thing I'll miss are the HD channels for Discovery, PBS, and NG.

Oh, and I don't know how it's elsewhere, but the PVR user interface from my cable operator just SUCKS!
