How th HVX achieves 1080p

Having a discussion on another board and this piece of info came out about the HVX:

"It's a 540p camera with built-in upconversion to 1080p. There's no way around that 540 Nyquist limit. A/B its 1080p with the 1080p from an F-900/950 on a DLP projector, mapping the data pixels 1-1 to the mirrors. Anything less, and you'd just be looking at the limitations of the viewing system."

Any thoughts / comments?

It's not an upconversion. The green CCD is offset both horizontally and vertically so that it isn't sampled at the same location as the other two CCDs.

And no, it's not going to match an F900, pixel for pixel. Sorry, sometimes the $100,000 camera beats the $5,000 camera.

However, the guys who shoot "The 4400" on the F900 found that the HVX made an excellent B-camera for their F900.

Barry's right, I work at panavision in vancouver BC and it's becoming more common to use the HVX as a B or C-Camera for F-900's, Vipers, and HDX900's. I just sent out an HVX to be used as a C-Camera On a show using the Thompson Viper called Operation Espianage with Wesley Snipes. Here are some other shows we send out HVX's too that use them for C-Cam's: "Kyle XY" (F-950), The 4400 (F-900), The L-Word (F-900), Journey to the Centre of the Earth (F-900), Pain Killer Jane (Viper) and alot more.....

Cheers,

Nathan
