Another new flip adapter: Letus35 Economy

Wow, with all the buzz about the L35 Extreme, I didn't even notice that they've introduced yet another new model.

The Letus35 Economy seems to fit in-between the L35 Flip Enhanced and the top-of-the-line L35 Extreme.

It looks like it is about halfway between; it has a milled plastic body like the L35FE (as opposed to the milled aluminum of the L35 Extreme) but it has the new flip prism of the L35 Extreme instead of the mirror system of the L35FE. That means it has the much-better low-light performance of the L35 Extreme; they list it as 0.5+ stops of light loss (vs. 0.5 for the Extreme, and 1.5 for the L35FE).

It also has the highest-grade custom HD achromat that the Extreme has. But it doesn't have the new custom condensor lens.

It's priced a little more than the L35FE.
L35FE: $700
L35 Economy: $900
L35 Extreme: $1200 (limited time offer)

So if you were intrigued by the L35FE and its low price, but needed better low-light performance, perhaps this new L35 Economy is the ticket.

Here's a link to his comparison chart:

How cool is that! Flip for the masses!!!!!!

I'm still getting the extreme though. No need to screw around for another $300 bucks. Maybe if I was faced with a $600 upcharge it would be a different story.

The Flip Enhanced is plastic and can be used without rails -- although you'd need to keep your lenses pretty light. You certainly shouldn't go mounting a big 200mm lens on there without rails.

How does it compare to say the sgpro for edge to edge sharpness. I just purchased an A1, and the sharpness is amazing. I currently own a M2, but am not satisfied with the edge to edge sharpness. I hear the sgpro is really good with that issue. How does the Letus FE, and the new version stack up? Very curious. I have heard some nice things about the Letus in the pass, but nothing about edge to edge sharpness.

Thanks

Based on my initial tests with the Extreme, sharpness is consistent across the frame.

In the announcement for the Extreme, they make specific mention of a custom condensor lens and a custom-engineered HD achromat, and between those two that should result in even sharpness and even light distribution.

Could be wrong but I think the custom condensor is just for the extreme not the econ model. This does look great I need to pick up a few side jobs then buy me one of these.

Correct, the custom condenser is in the Extreme but not the Economy. The Economy is a great little unit for those on a tighter budget but with only a $300 difference right now, I would personally recommend the Extreme. Not to sound biased or anything ;)

About the rods.... I always recommend using them with any adapter. Sure you might not *need* to but for $150-$170 extra, you have some piece of mind. I'd rather be safe than sorry and that extra support makes me feel more comfortable.

If anyone has specific questions about the Extreme/Economy, feel free to PM me. I'll answer what I can. We are trying to get some sample footage put together and posted soon as I know there are MANY of you out there anxious to see it.

I just placed my order for the Letus Extreme earlier today and I'm shopping for a rails / base / lens-to-rails mount package - what would you recommend for $150-170?

Everything I'm looking at is $300+...

Thanks!

Acording to your sig a new letus site is going to be getting off the ground?

Yeah, the Cavision rods is what I was talking about. That's what I use with my Letus FE and XH-A1 with no problems. You will need longer rods if you want to add a matte box as David said.

ecking... yes, LetusDirect.com has been "off the ground" for some time now. It is being run along side of Quyen's site to help take some of the order management / customer support load off him so he can focus on the development and production side of things.

The goal of LetusDirect.com is to provide the best customer support possible for new and experienced users. Head on over and check it out :)

The casing for the letus economy is just like the letus flip e.

Does that mean its open and prone to the dust problem the flip suffered or is it nicely sealed like the extreme?

Just want to double check on this..
