Some of my 3d stuff...

Figure I'd start a thread in here so I can show people how my 3d learning process is coming along.

Here's the first thing that I did. Granted, it was a tutorial, but I didn't follow it verbatim...

EDIT: I replaced the older version with the texturing issues with this new one.

The grain of the cross pieces on the end of the box is in the wrong direction.

And if it wasn't for that (and I only noticed because you said to look) I would have thought this was a photograph. Fantastic stuff!
The lighting especially is exceptional.

Where did you get the textures? And what software is this?

Lightwave 3d the textures I used came with the training.

Thanks, Mikko! I got this training DVD but used different textures. I found some images on a Google search that I liked, so I used those instead.

The software is Lightwave. It's got a really nice rendering engine. Lightwave has come a long way lately...

Looks good. Looks like my first lightwave model too.

Did you go through the whole course yet? I just got done with the one with the crate.

Looks pretty good to me. Since the grain on the end of the box is mostly in shadow I bet most wouldn't have noticed it. I especially like the realistic and imperfect concrete floor.

Wish I had the time to use that copy of Lightwave I've had for a while now. One more thing to learn. I've even had a copy of the 3D Arsenal which I had high hopes for doing some cool stuff with but just no time!

Tiled? I just saw what looks like porous and painted concrete. Funny how we apply our own internal "filters" to these things sometimes and two people can see different things.

Yeah, the background tiling was quite noticeable. I replaced the original pic with a new render.

Thanks for the feedback. :)

Well at my work I have lightwave and I started the course about month ago but have pretty much stopped right at the render so far. I've been pretty busy with other projects not to mention I bought Cinema 4d recently for my home workstation. I must say thus far C4D is just awesome it is alot more user friendly than lightwave and has some really great modules. This 3d stuff is pretty addicting. I need like 12 more hours in each day.

And two pf the boards have the exact same texture. Do I get extra points?

No. :cheesy:

There are only 2 wood textures used and they just wrap around each group of objects. The sides and top actually have the same texture applied to as a group and it just wraps around, but it looks nice. If this were something I was going to use for anything other than a learning thing, I would spend more time on it, but it's not...

Yeah Tommy!! that looks awesome, man!

looks as though we'll be meeting each other in the middle of october for the In Extremis shoot on the weekend of the 20th. gonna kick some ass, dude!

keep up the great work with this lightwave stuff.
3d is something i'd love to pick up.
