Cinevate Flip Module - They're Here!

WOW...that's awesome. Are you saying the the flip module will render the achromat/lead tube absolete and thus we on't need it?? or do we "add" it to it and making it even longer? (I am mainly talking about the SGPro here)

It seems as though it would render the hard-mount (m2) or tube (SGpro) obsolete, because it aligns the camera itself.

Which is good. =D

If any of you are attending the Canon Expo on Thursday/Friday in Toronto, we'll be there with at least the "mule" flip and possibly the final retail enclosure too. Canon Canada has been touring with a kitted up XH-G1, so we figured we'd show up for at least one show. I did a workshop this weekend at the Bay Street Film Festival (local) with an HV20 mounted to the flip and linked directly to a 42" 1080P display via HDMI. The output was excellent :-)

To answer the last few questions, we'll provide detailed weight and size as soon as the final housing is done. The testing "mules" that we have are tanks and won't be used for anything but testing. As a rough guide, the unit will extend overall length about 1 inch. In the case of longer lead in tubes, or Brevis units used with spacers, it will likely shorten your rig. For adapters that don't hard mount already, the flip module will do this for you...and make attachment a snap too.

I wish I had known about the bay street fest, I would have gone if I had known you were doing a thing there. Could you maybe in the future post about these things earlier somewhere, I really, really would have liked to go.

Also where do I find details about the Thurs/Friday Canon thing?

We should have a pile of shots shortly. E, sorry about the film festival thing :-( I wouldn't have thought of posting that here, but I guess there's a few Thunder Bay folks lurking about here! We did make the evening news here today, and I have permission to post the clip. I've also got some third party footage of our jib/dolly combination in action at the "Make It Short" film project that wrapped up yesterday. We had an HV20/Brevis mounted inverted on our jib (24mm lens) and the XH-A1/Brevis shooting on tripod. The picture top left has a glimpse of the HV20/Brevis rig on our jib in the background.

The Canon Pro Expo is being held in Toronto, September 20th and 21st at this location: http://www.atlantispavilions.com/homepage.html We'll be there for the two days :-) There'll be an XH-G1/Brevis combination tethered via SDI to a Sony HD monitor and an HV20 mounted to our flip "mule"/Brevis35. Apple and Adobe will be there too.

If all goes well, we'll unveil our very first Cinevate production follow focus units there too.

It would all be speculation at this point until one can put the two side by side... But, I am expecting good things from Dennis on this... It's an already very sharp and bright adapter in my opinion, and at an initial estimate of .5 stops of light loss for the flip module... well... sounds great promising to me... just have to wait and see though

There is a very large difference in that the Letus uses mirrors (my understanding). We don't :-) In other words, zero possibility of dust, misalignment, or anything falling apart.

Thanks to you Dennis, I can no longer sleep at night! I want one NOW!!!!!!!! :2vrolijk_08:

Well, a hard drive failure on one of the CNC milling devices was all that it took to stall a debut of the retail enclosure at the Canon Expo tomorrow :-( We brought "the tank" instead.

Well, our retail flip version didn't get finished in time for the Canon Pro Expo, but we did make it down with one of the test "mules". After one of the Canon workshops (fashion photog "Crila") we did what every responsible group of video geeks would do....absconded with her model and snapped a few shots

Dennis did I miss something or is pricing a big secret?? How much and when are they gonna be available?

What good is the zoom control when you're using a 35mm lens? I thought the HV20 didn't have lanc anyways? And it looks like it's not plugged in?

Zoom control is of no use, and you're right...it's not plugged in. One of the Still-Motion guys happened to have a spider brace along, and basically set that rig up all his own. We just happened to think it was kind of cool...and the model was quite happy to play along. Pricing for the retail version will be in the $300 range.

Can we pre-order?:cheesy:

And just to confirm, you said it will work with other 35MM adapters like the SGPro?
