Shooting 24P & 30P

Hello--

I'm a brand new DVX100B owner, and I have a few questions... Should I always be shooting in 24P since it looks better? What are the situations when I should NOT shoot in 24P? Also, if I'm working on a project using both footage that I shot in 24P on the DVX AND 30P from a different consumer camcorder, will I have any trouble in FCP? Does the entire project need to be in the same mode (besides the obvious difference in look)?

Any other general, important beginner tips about the DVX100B would be greatly appreciated. I'm beyond excited about my new camera but slightly intimidated by the steep learning curve.

Thanks so much!

Shoot with what ever you feel. Usually for films, people tend to go the 24p way cuz it looks and matches movies, Becasue movies are 24 frames per second. 30p is usually based on tv shows, weddings, music videos, that kinda thing. Personally, i shoot 24p because i like the look

I shoot 30p for weddings and 24pa for everything else. Other then that just read the manual and get to know your camera. I'm not sure about the 24p and 30p in the same timeline. I think it would just make you render for the 30p. Assuming you are working in a 24p timeline.

If you hav 30p and 24p in the same timline, set ur timeline sequence frame rate setting to 29.97, that is if u capture the 24p with a 2:3:3:2 pull down removal

Thanks... and what about 60i?

Thanks... and what about 60i?

Hi Everyone--

Thanks so much for the advice. When, if ever, should I shoot in 60i (Progressive Mode OFF), then? If I'm using footage from another camcorder that does not have progressive mode and adding 30P or 24P footage from the DVX in the same timeline, will it be OK?

I'm taking my DVX100B on a trip to some very remote places in Asia, and I want to make this as easy as possible, but I still want to take advantage of my new camera.

Thanks again.

if you need to use 24p and 30p in the same project, I'm pretty sure it's suggested to use 24p and not 24pa. and don't capture using the removal. capture using the same setting as the 30p, because that's what the pulldown creates when putting the footage to tape in camera.

if you do happen to shoot in 24pa, this will also work in the same project sa the 30p, when captured not using the removal.

if you are doing a project that is strictly 24 frames, shoot in 24pa, and use the advanced removal setting, and make sure your editing sequence is set for 23.98 or whatever it is.

and my opinion for 60i, only use when you have a project where you need something to stand out specifically as video footage.

I think some people might use 60i for creating slow motion segments.
