I just recieved my Hvx from B&H today, and i am undoubtably stoked! Although, i do have a question. When attempting to register my cam, it failed, saying that "This serial number does not exist or it has been used already"
I trust that B&H wouldn't send out a grey market cam, although it seems that they've had some problems with the grey market deal, but nevertheless, im a bit worried. Does it seem likely that this could be a grey market cam? how can i check?

Does the warranty card say U.S. or something like Panasonic Canada? Does the underside mention the camera being up to snuff for Canadian (or anything but U.S.) standards? There are some other indicators, if someone else can think of them.

it says panasonic canada inc...
also, a square portion of the second box (the box that the camera isnt in) is cut out, seemingly where the serial number should be

I had a similar issue when I received my B&H shipment with the hvx. I had a damaged outter box, and part of the serial number's tag was ripped off. I also got the same error when trying to get my rebate. Email or call the rebate support group. My contact told me that probably the camera was so new that the serial hadn't been entered in the database for registration yet. If I haven't gotten my number through by next week, I'll raise hell again, but for now their explanation seemed sensible.

This is what I tell people all the time who recommend B&H or NewEgg over eBay. I bought 2 DVXs from eBay used and have had zero problems. U.S. models, loved a babied by DPs or directors. Friend got a gray mkt DVX from NewEgg. When I get an HVX it will be on eBay fer sure.

Beats me, I haven't installed the software from the CD because what's on the 'net is newer -- that's what you should be using.

On the other hand, I can't imagine that Panasonic would include Japanese software with cameras destined for the US. I've never heard anyone else here ask that question either, so my guess is the answer is "no".

wait
but on the bottom of the HVX, it mentions nothing about the US but just Canada.
is it appropriate for me to come to the conclusion that i recieved a Canadian HVX from B&H photo video?

If you purchased a brand new camera then I suggest you contact B&H right away and get all this straightened out. I would also suggest sending Jan Crittenden a PM so she can look into it for you.

This is a US camera. There may be other reasons for the rebate not going through. But this camera from B & H is just fine, it is possibly a website issue, but most certainly is not a gray market issue.

Best,

jan

Jan,

Thank you for your continued support of the dvxuser membership. It is comforting knowing you continue to look out for us.

like I said guy, talk to the rebate people about your issue. They said that it is a common problem, so you might as well make sure it isn't a horse before you yell "zebra"

When I entered my serial number for the rebate, it did the same thing for me, it took several tries on the website for the number to "take". I think it's just the website. Check for capitalization too.
