Losing Business Because I Am Too Young?

I'm glad other people are in the same boat. I'm 25, have been running my own business for 3 years now and still get people coming to the door and asking if my dad is here. I've learned to just laugh at it...I do only look about 20 so that doesnt help, but I find that once people see what you can do, they have a whole new respect for you. Somewhat hard to get respect from other , older vendors that we work with too so I have to let my work speak for itself. I guess it's a good thing though, to be so young and running my own business...when they ask for my dad, they're the ones that end up looking stupid :-)

I used it as a strength. When I was the young gu at anetwork with20 editors, I found many wanted to edit with the young hip guy rather than the old farts.
We quickly go from too youg to too old in this bidness.

Hey. I will come out. Im 16 years old and im practicly head hunted by a few companies to do Editing/graphics for them. I might be only 16 but i could say i have atleast 5 years experience.

I run a fairly big webhosting company that intotal hosts about 2500 websites,
I seem to be filming about 4 weddings a month,
Im also a part time webdesigner for 20 companies around my area.
Im also starting up a business like istockvideo,
and at the same time doing my Alevels and hanging out with my mates.

If your age depends on everything in the world, the world wouldn't simply move forward.

What i find helps, if you try and be all professional. EG meet them in a coffee shop and show them your portfolio. Also try and take a laptop with you or something. EG a Macbook Pro and show them a project your working on, say in FCP.

Look at guys like Richard Branson. He was 14 when he started his media company. People laughed at him, and look where he is now.

At the end of the day, we are the film makers of tomorrow.

Cheers,
Nathaniel

not for nothing.... Michelangelo was 24 when he made Pieta`.

Also, after working with people, noone believes im 24. Lucky for me im bald, so i look 35..... ( firstime my bald head has gotten me anyhting....)

Boy, nothing will make you feel older than young people worried that they are too young.
:)

I'd swap places with any of you in a heartbeat.
Just keep working - like many have already said your work will speak for itself.
Don't sweat your age - you'll have PLENTY of time for that when you get older.
