We just finished a 15 day shoot for a feature called Thirst. We filmed on location in Cache Creek and Kamloops, BC using Silicon Imaging's SI-2K Mini. Link: www.si-2k.com
The movie is about 2 couples who crash their truck while exploring the desert and their attempt to survive the harsh environment. My role was to supply the camera and operate the capture station.
The footage captured thrilled everyone from the producers, to the crew, to the cast (the main lead played by Lacey Chabert from Party of Five).
The small size of the camera head enabled us to capture 2K footage while placing the cam on the dash of the SUV for interior shots, suspend it over a swimming pool on home made jib arms, (we later used a Kessler Crane), and shoot under water by partially submerging a 70 gallon fish tank and placing the SI-2K Mini inside (my most nerve wracking day! ... though, they were insured).
I think what impressed me most, as I'm already familiar with the quality of the camera, is the fact that it endured scorching heat and cold evenings, being powered constantly, and the dust ... Within five minutes of setting up we and all the gear were coated with a layer of dust and remained that way for the rest of the shooting day. We had injuries, broken gear, technical issues with sound and power, but we were all surprised that the Mini just kept on going and the capture station too.
The director of Thirst, Jeffery Lando, is really adept at various technological aspects of, well, pretty much everything, and he was very happy with the results.
I have tons of BTS photos, but I'm sure people would like to see some screen captures and some footage. I'll work on the BTS first, and as soon as I dust off my backup PC tower (we had a backup camera on set - thanks Ari!) I'll see if I have some footage there.
Cheers.
